IUP FT UB Students Hold Field Trip to PT. Terminal Teluk Lamong

The second semester students from the International Undergraduate Program (IUP), Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering (FT), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), held a field trip to PT. Terminal Teluk Lamong as part of the 45th Faculty of Engineering Student Work Camp on Wednesday (5/2). This visit aims to provide practical insight to students regarding modern port operations based on green technology and to improve their understanding of technology integration in the transportation and logistics sector.

This field trip was attended by 6 IUP students and 7 students representing laboratories and studios in the Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, UB. During this visit, the participants had the opportunity to learn more about the port operational system, the application of automation technology, and sustainability strategies implemented at PT. Terminal Teluk Lamong, which is known as a pioneer of green smart ports in Indonesia. In addition, students also had the opportunity to discuss directly with professionals in the port industry regarding future challenges and opportunities in the maritime industry.

The group of students were welcomed by PT. Terminal Teluk Lamong, who gave a presentation on various innovations that have been implemented, including an automated crane system, the use of electric vehicles, and environmentally friendly waste management. In this session, students were given the opportunity to understand how this technology is applied to increase efficiency and reduce environmental impact. The company also explained their long-term initiatives in creating a greener and digital-based port ecosystem.

In addition to listening to the presentation, students were also invited to see directly the implementation of technology in port operations. They witnessed how the automation system works to increase productivity and how energy and resource management is carried out to minimize negative impacts on the surrounding environment. With this visit, students gained direct experience that they could relate to the theories they had learned in lectures.

One of the field trip participants, Ahmed Abdo Othman Naji Al-Yousofy, an IUP Industrial Engineering student from Yemen, expressed his positive impression of this visit. Similar things were also conveyed by other students, who highlighted the importance of hands-on experience in understanding industry challenges and finding innovative solutions for the future.

“This field trip is very useful since it provides a real picture of how technology and sustainability can be integrated into the port industry. This is a valuable experience for us as prospective engineers,” said Ahmed.

By the existence of visits to leading companies such as PT. Terminal Teluk Lamong, Industrial Engineering students of Universitas Brawijaya are expected to be better prepared to face future industry challenges. This activity is also expected to broaden students’ insights regarding real-world industrial applications and provide inspiration in the development of sustainable industrial technology. In addition, collaboration with industry like this is expected to continue to be developed, so that students can be more involved in real projects and research that can make a positive contribution to the development of industrial technology in Indonesia.
