Students of the 954 group of MMD-1000 villages held a waste bank socialization to PKK Banjaran MMD Village women in Banjaran Village, Driyorejo District, Gresik Regency, Friday (14/7/2023) to provide information regarding waste banks as an alternative solution to overcoming waste and landfill problems in Banjaran Village.
One of the main waste problems is air pollution caused by burning waste. So that another goal of this socialization is to increase awareness and the role of the community in managing waste and making waste have economic value that can generate side income for PKK women.
This socialization explains what a waste bank is, the benefits and objectives of a waste bank, the elements in managing a waste bank, the administrative needs of a waste bank, and the budget for the costs of making a waste bank. During the socialization, brochures were also distributed to make it easier for PKK women to understand the material.
After the explanation of the material, the activity continued with a question and answer session (QnA) between PKK women and student presenters. Socialization activities ran smoothly from start to finish.
In addition to provide socialization about the waste bank, the 954 MMD group also invited Elementary School (SD) students to practice the traditional Gresik Damar Kurung dance and use social media YouTube as a medium for cultural promotion.
Damar Kurung itself is one of Gresik’s icons in the form of a lantern created by Mbah Masmundari, which means confined light. Mbah Masmundari creatively paints Damar Kurung which depicts the cultural story of the life of Gresik people.
The implementation of Damar Kurung Dance training activities began on Saturday (8/7/2023) to Wednesday (19/7/2023) which was carried out for four meetings at Banjaran Village Hall starting at 09.00-11.00 WIB.
The Damar Kurung Dance training was attended by children in grades 1-5 of Elementary School (SD). At the beginning of the training, children are given basic knowledge about the basic movements of traditional dance, starting from mendak, nyempurit, ngruji, and ngithing as a provision to learn more about Damar Kurung dance from Gresik. The second and third meeting they began to be given training in the Damar Kurung Dance movement. Then in the last meeting was a video recording of the results of the Damar Kurung Dance training which was uploaded on Banjaran Village Youtube channel, namely Desa Banjaran Hadir.
“The hope is that with Damar Kurung Typical Gresik Traditional Dance Training and Utilization of Youtube Social Media as a Cultural Promotion Media, children can get to know more and have a sense of wanting to continue preserving dance culture from Gresik area. And by uploading videos of the results of the Damar Kurung dance practice, it is hoped that Damar Kurung dance will be increasingly recognized by the wider community and its sustainability will be maintained in order to maintain Indonesian culture as national identity,” said team representative, Faurina Af’ida Diyana.
