Five students from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, Universitas Brawijaya (FTP UB) successfully held a socialization of food innovation in Selorejo Village, Lowokwaru District, Malang City, Thursday (12/5/2024). This activity aims to introduce healthy noodles made from low-sugar porang flour and moringa leaves to local PKK members.

The student team consisting of Marchella Alifian Amin Lestiawan, Farhan Hafidh Fazidane, Muhammad Ziyad Husaini, Talitha Apta Fatihah, Dhea Aura Bening Shafira enthusiastically shared their knowledge about the advantages of these low-sugar noodles as an alternative healthy food. This innovative product is expected to support healthy eating patterns in the community to prevent diseases such as diabetes and obesity.

In the socialization session, participants gained in-depth insight into the benefits of the main ingredients of noodles, namely porang and moringa leaves. Porang is known to have glucomannan content which is effective in helping to control blood sugar levels, while moringa leaves are rich in antioxidants and various important nutrients. Not only theory, this session was also equipped with a cooking demonstration, allowing participants to directly taste the healthy noodles served. The majority of the women said that the texture of the noodles they tasted was not much different from the noodles that are usually consumed every day. Therefore, healthy noodles made from porang flour and moringa leaves have high potential to be developed and towards sustainability.

The enthusiasm of the PKK women was seen throughout the activity. One of the participants, Sudarwati as the head of the PKK expressed her impressions.

“We just found out about this product, especially the use of porang as a raw material for making noodles. New knowledge for all of us,” she said. In addition, in the question and answer session, many PKK mothers competed to ask their questions.

Through this activity, the student team hopes to increase public awareness of the importance of local food innovations that support health. Furthermore, they hope that Selorejo Village can utilize this potential to develop small businesses in the healthy food sector. [team/sitirahma/UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
