Students of Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Brawijaya (FT-UB), Eka Rhezaldian Darmawan, was awarded as the winner of Pemuda Pelopor (Youth Pioneer) Kota Malang 2016, Department of Youth and Sports (Dispora) Malang, Natural Resources Management and Environment Unit.
Selection was conducted in three stages. After going through the administration selection, participants were required to describe their activity on pioneering something which initiated by participants in their respective fields. Selection was held on 28 April 2016 at the Office of Dispora Malang.
Then, the selection phase continued by field assessment (fact finding) to observe the performance of participants on the community that took place some time ago.
In this competition, Rheza bring his environmentally friendly toothpaste, EXCELDENT which made of chicken egg shells waste that have been pioneered since 2012. The usefulness of this product had already been socialized and pass on several occasions. One of them is the students of Brawijaya Smart School Malang.
“Egg shells waste can be found anywhere, but rarely used. Though it can also be used for fertilizer. Hopefully, EXCELDENT could increase the economic value of waste egg shells,” he said.
Meanwhile, Dispora Malang representative, Budi Sulistyo, acknowledge that idea applied for this toothpaste is highly praised, because it is a real masterpiece and can have big impact to the community. However, Budi hope, EXCELDENT can involve more personnel in its manufacturing process.
“For example, the manufacture of tools for softening the toothpaste can involve students of Mechanical Engineering. Or it could also be empowers youth organization in the production process. The marketing process also need to be considered,” he said.
Currently, said Rheza, EXCELDENT still in the process of certification. Hopefully, by this youth pioneer and educating public activities the process can run smoothly. For EXCELDENT formula, Rheza claimed to have already find the right composition after a long research.
The award giving ceremony will be conducted at a ceremony commemorating 88th Youth Pledge Day on 28 October 2016 in Malang City Hall courtyard. Rheza will also participate in the selection of Youth Pioneers of East Java Province 2016. [and/mic/Humas UB]
