A Student of Marine Science Major Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) UB Raida Aufa Aleidakanaya was involved in Ocean X Exploration of Indonesian Sea.
The Young Explorer Ocean X program in Indonesia itself was carried out to conduct marine exploration and research from Bali to Bitung, North Sulawesi which took a 4-day journey by Ocean X ship.
For Raida, this activity was an interesting experience because she could learn from foreign researchers and also get to know the sophisticated equipment on the Ocean X Ship.
“I can learn to explore the sea using sophisticated equipment because the Ocean X ship is the most sophisticated research ship I have ever encountered,” she said
In addition, there were also many scientists on the ship who participated in the exploration of the Indonesian sea so that she gained a lot of knowledge.
“Exploring with Ocean X was a very valuable experience for me because everything I learned in class, I go learning directly during the activity,” she said.
Raida said that she was selected as a representative of the Ocean X program based on information she received through the Ministry of Education and Culture, which was intended for students from the top ten universities in Indonesia. She then followed a series of selections and passed along with students from other universities in Indonesia and from foreign universities who also participated in the 6th Young Explorer Ocean X.
“Initially, the batch group was sent a circular letter from the Ministry of Education and Culture. They invited students from the Top 10 Universities. After receiving the information, I registered via a form and was asked to fill out a motivation letter, a short paragraph about the ocean, and an introductory video. After passing the administration, I then took part in an interview selection with someone from Ocean X directly. After going through several selections, I was finally accepted as the only representative student from Universitas Brawijaya,” she said.
Ocean X conducted exploration in the Indonesian sea last August. Head of Marine Science Study Program Ade Yamindago, S/Kel., M.P., M.Sc hopes that through the expedition activities participated by Raida, it can attract other students to participate in similar activities.
“This activity also provides insight for institutions to conduct collaborative research in the future,” he said. (ROM/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
