FPIK Students Introduces Budikdamber Gandusari Residents

Gandusari Village is one of the villages located in Gandusari District, Blitar Regency. Gandusari Village has abundant natural and human resource potential. Gandusari Village is known for its potential fisheries cultivation such as koi fish cultivation and other freshwater fish cultivation, as well as being one of the places where traditional Indonesian batik culture develops.

Currently, koi fish farmers in Gandusari Village are experiencing problems with decreasing income from koi fish sales. Responding to this, the FPIK UB Thematic KKN team led by Hervian Bagus Ardhika, a student of the 2022 Fisheries Resource Utilization study program, wants to help the people of Gandusari Village to have additional income to meet their daily needs by doing a side business, namely catfish cultivation through the budikdamber method.

Budikdamber or fish farming in buckets is an environmentally friendly fish farming technique that combines fish and vegetable farming by using buckets as a container for fish farming and utilizing water as a cultivation medium for the growth and development of vegetable plants. Catfish farming using the budikdamber method is very profitable for the community, since the capital required for this farming is not too much and the harvest can be sold directly at the fish consumption market or processed into ready-to-eat food products and snacks.

Last July, at the Gandusari Village Hall, the FPIK UB Thematic KKN team, group 37, guided by Mrs. Aulia Rahmawati, S.P., M.Sc. carried out a socialization activity for catfish farming in buckets with kale plants in front of Gandusari Village community, Blitar Regency. In this socialization activity, students practiced how to make buckets used in budikdamber. Previously, students had conducted a budikdamber experiment for 2 weeks, and the results of the experiment were socialized to the participants.

As a result, budikdamber strengthens the resilience of staple food in families, providing food rich in fish and vegetables for families independently. The response from participants was very enthusiastic in following the socialization and interested in practicing the budikdamber technique in their respective homes. (VQ/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
