FKUB Students Study Health Research in Japan

FKUB’s PRALINE GLOBE 2024 program brings 10 UB student delegates to study research in Japan

Ten students from the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya (FKUB) had the opportunity to visit four universities in Japan through the PRALINE GLOBE 2024 program. This exchange program is a commitment of the FKUB Medical Education Study Program team and the FKUB International Relations Office (IRO) team to improve the development of students’ insights and skills in the field of health research.

For two weeks, (18/11/2024 to 1/12/2024), the ten students from the 2021 batch of the Medical Study Program were divided into four groups. Yohanes Audric Alimsjah and Imke Maria Del Rosario Puling visited Kagoshima University; Agnes Vianne, Gustaf Abhipraya, and Qanitha Ailsya Rayhanna visited Nagoya City University; Vincent Enrico Anderson and Naufal Zulfikar Akbar visited Miyazaki University, and Derrick Rizki Ayungga, Fayra Syahrani Atiiqa, and Kartika Taufani Sukarno visited Tottori University.

Yohanes Audric Alimsjah shared his experience visiting Kagoshima University. He learned pipetting skills, cell counting, Plasma/PBMC & ccfDNA isolation, compound screening for ATL, western blot assay, coding on Phyton and RStudio, FACS in the Virology Laboratory guided directly by Prof. Shingo Nakahata, Ph.D.

He and Imke also conducted observations and discussions in the Antiviral Therapy division, Neuroimmunology division, Translational Medicine division, and Biological Information Technology division with the university’s professors.

“During the two weeks there, it opened my eyes that a doctor does not only always focus on clinical but can also be in the field of research. In my opinion, there are no boundaries in seeking knowledge, not even hindered by differences in the language used,” said Yohanes.

He also gained social exchange experience with Medical students from Kagoshima University and Medical and Dental Sciences Indonesia who are studying at Kagoshima University.

“This is a very memorable experience for us. Especially during the farewell party where we were given letters containing greetings from all division staff in various languages, because the division staff are diverse, not only consisting of Japanese. Hopefully the relationships that have been established here can be maintained,” he said.

PRALINE GLOBE 2024 is the second year this program has been implemented by FKUB. Yohanes and other delegates successfully joined this program after passing the admnistration stages, Motivation Letter, English Proficiency Test, and interview by the PRALINE GLOBE team. [Irene/UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
