Student of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Universitas Brawijaya (FKH UB), Frida Ayu Salsana Billa conducted Community Service and Thematic Work Lectures (KKN) on 20 family heads of the community of Pucakwangi Village Farmer Group, Babat District, Lamongan Regency, Sunday (15/8/2021).

Thematic KKN under the guidance of drh. Shelly Kusumarini, R., M.Si is related to education on zoonoses caused by rat bites.

“Commonly, the public has sufficient understanding of zoonoses caused by rats, but they do not yet know the preventive and treatment measures. Considering that in the neighborhood around local residents’ settlements there are often rats, people are required to be more aware. Through this socialization, we hope that local residents can implement clean living behaviors and protect family members from rat bites,” said Fhida.

Rat bite fever is a systemic febrile disease caused by the bite of rat.

This case cannot be taken lightly since it can become serious if it not handled properly.

In this socialization, it is explained what the symptoms arise due to rat bites, how to provide appropriate first aid, and prevention to avoid rat bites.

“This socialization is very useful considering that my family members have experienced rat bites and did not handle in the right way. Finally, now I understand that something like this cannot be taken lightly because it can be fatal,” said one resident, Hasan.

Frida hopes that the knowledge shared can be useful and can be applied easily.

“This socialization is also beneficial for us to hone our public speaking skills and confidence,” she said. (FASB/FKH UB/ Humas UB/ Trans. Iir)
