A team of students from the Department of Architecture, Faculty of Engineering Universitas Brawijaya, has successfully achieved a brilliant achievement by winning 3rd place in the 2025 Urban Oasis Competition. The competition, which was held by the Architecture Study Program of Krisnadwipayana University, took place from October 30, 2024 to January 15, 2025, where this event was a place for design innovation and creative solutions in overcoming the challenges of designing modern urban spaces.
The competition with the theme Urban Oasis Integration Public Space, the student team from the Department of Architecture, FT UB, consisting of Gregory Renard Riadi (NIM 2250605011110402) and Jerry Chrystian Harsono (NIM 225060507111025) won 3rd place.
The work presented in this competition was entitled Taman Riengkes, which was designed as a solution to urban problems in big cities like East Jakarta. Population growth and urbanization have triggered various problems such as air pollution, lack of green space, slum areas, brawls, illegal parking, and unorganized street vendors.
“Factors such as lack of government support, community habits, and family economic instability have worsened this condition. In response to these challenges, Riengkes Park is proposed as an integrated public space that is inclusive, multifunctional, and sustainable,” they explained.
This success is real proof that FTUB Architecture students are able to compete on the national stage with creativity and qualified skills. Gregory and Jerry expressed their gratitude and pride for this achievement.
“We are very grateful to be able to participate and win 3rd place in this event. The process we went through was full of challenges, but also very valuable for self-development and professionalism for the future,” they said.
With the achievements obtained, this team has shown high creativity and dedication in developing concepts that are not only aesthetic, but also functional and sustainable. The victory in the 2025 Urban Oasis Competition is proof that the FT UB Architecture Department encourages innovation and development of architectural science that is adaptive to modern urban dynamics.
The students hope that this achievement can motivate the next generation to continue to innovate in creating design solutions that have a positive impact on society and the environment. Congratulations to Gregory Renard Riadi and Jerry Chrystian Harsono for their achievements! May this success be the beginning of other brilliant achievements in the future. Keep up the spirit of working and continue to excel! [mic/drn]
