The Public Broadcasting Institute of the Republic of Indonesia for Radio Republic of Indonesia (LPP RRI) Malang held a variety show entitled ‘Smart Voting Movement’ (GCM) at Gazebo Corner Universitas Brawijaya (UB), Wednesday (31/5/2023) to provide education regarding elections, especially for the younger generation.
Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni and Student Entrepreneurship represented by Expert staff Iswatun Khasanah M.Pd.,S.Pd., M.Ed.,Ph.D conveyed this activity was to provide education, especially for voters who are taking part in elections for the first time .
“Students also carry out election activities both at the Faculty level (PEMILWA) and at the University level (PEMIRA) for election learning and training,” said Iswatun.
This activity lasted for three hours starting from live music, dance performances, to interactive dialogues. For an interactive dialogue with the theme ‘Smart Voters for Elections with Integrity’, three speakers were presented, namely Malang Regency General Election Commission (KPU) Chairman Anis Suhartini, Malang City Bawaslu Chairman Alim Mustofa, and UB academic Wawan Sobari.
“Hopefully after this activity, RRI as a public radio can contribute to educating prospective voters to be able to convey their right to vote in the upcoming 2024 election,” said the Head of LPP RRI Malang, Muhsin Zein in his remarks.
According to him, this activity is also a medium for healthy political education. So as to foster awareness, openness and understanding of the social conditions of society. So that it can awaken political ethics and political responsibility towards polite political people.
“This activity is also an effort to prevent abstentions for all participants in the 2024 election, especially for first-time voters,” he stated.
This event involves at least 150 UB students. A number of activities also colored this movement, starting from live music, dance performances, the 2024 Election Carnival along with performances of unique costumes, to interactive dialogues. [Humas UB/ Trans. Iir]
