Five proposals from Universitas Brawijaya (UB) were selected in 114 Indonesian Innovations 2022. The selection conducted by Business Innovation Center (BIC) determined only 63 proposals from 233 reviews of proposals submitted from all over Indonesia.
The five titles of UB’s proposals that were selected were: (1) Lobster Quality Monitoring System based on Machine Learning to Increase Lobster Productivity (by Ajeng Kusuma Dewi and team), (2) Pregnancy Glicoprotein 63 kDa Based Pregnancy Detection Kit in Animals (by Prof. Dr. Aulanni’am, drh., DES and team), (3) Improved Safety Train with Ticketing (Sugiono, Ph.D and team), (4) Beauty Secret Kombucha Skincare (Prof. Dr. Ir. Elok Zubaidah, M.P and team ), (5) Combination Effects of Lactobacillus plantarum DAD-13 and Metformin in Improvement of Obesity, Metabolic, Inflammatory, Dysbiosis and Liver Histopathology Markers in Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatitis Model Rats (by dr. Syifa Mustika, Sp.PD., K-GEH and team).
Director of the Directorate of Innovation and Business Incubation of Universitas Brawijaya (DI2B-UB) Mohammad Iqbal, S.Sos., M.I.B., DBA said, this is a good start for UB’s innovation to continue into optimal downstream in the future.
“The emergence of innovative products from UB is proof that UB is in the process of strengthening UB reputation. We will also continue to move progressively directly to find out the potential of inventors from each faculty. So it is hoped that all UB inventors can be facilitated to raise UB’s reputation through innovation and invention,” said Iqbal.
One of the inventors Prof. Dr. Aulanni’am, drh., DES said that his work was selected in the 114 Indonesian Innovations 2022 and was something to be proud of.
“Proposals submitted by UB innovators are assessed for one year, and receive input from extraordinary judges. So it is very proud if our proposal passes the review, meaning that our work has been tested and recognized,” said Aulanni’am.
She explained that the innovation she had developed with the team did not yet exist in Indonesia, namely the Pregnancy Glicoprotein 63 kDa Pregnancy Detection Kit in Animals.
“Currently, animal pregnancy tests usually use a simple method of rectal palpation, but this method tends to be invasive and takes a long time. With this Detection Kit, by simply taking a blood serum sample, pregnancy can be checked 6-10 days after artificial insemination, so farmers can immediately adjust their nutritional needs and barn conditions for their livestock,” he explained.
Some of the research results of Aulanni’am and the team have passed five times in the Indonesian Innovation BIC, namely in 2014, 2018, 2020, 2021 and 2022.
“I hope that more and more UB innovators will submit their work to be reviewed by BIC, so that the innovation targets for UB faculties and study programs can be achieved,” said Aulanni’am.
The selection process for the 114 Indonesian Innovations 2022 involved 12 judges for 11 technology categories, from entrepreneurs and top company executives in various industrial sectors.
BIC, which has published a series of Indonesian innovations every year since 2008, is fully supported by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN). It is hoped that the selected proposals can become prospective innovations and can work together with related innovation stakeholders, and can become Indonesia’s future innovative products.
