Universitas Brawijaya Library on July 14, 2022 at 09.00 WIB received an official visit from the New Rector of UB for the period 2022-2027 Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.Med.Sc. The Head of UB Library accompanied by field coordinators receives the visit of the UB Rector in Meeting Room 1. This visit is intended as a review of UB Rector to the UB Library as well as dialogue with the Head of the Library and librarians.
“Library plays an important role as the spearhead of service to students. Therefore, UB Library must be a comfortable and fun place to study and find references for lecture materials and student assignments,” said Professor Widodo.
UB Rector wants UB library to have two zones, namely the shared zone and the private zone. The shared zone is intended for visitors in general who want to take advantage of the facilities, services and collections of UB Library as well as joint tasks. While the private zone is for students who need privacy and concentration in doing their final project. UB library must provide adequate facilities, facilities and infrastructure, such as co-working space and computers, considering the high needs of students to do assignments.
In terms of collections, UB Library is expected to be able to use collections efficiently, namely unused printed books can be transferred to the faculty reading room, and book collections are expected to gradually shift to e-book collections. All UB students will be able to access all collections only through the application. E-journals that have been subscribed to so far must also be evaluated. For e-journals that are less desirable, meaning that the percentage of access and downloads is small, it is better to stop being unsubscribed. Furthermore, funds for subscribing to e-journals can be diverted for the procurement of facilities and infrastructure that are still lacking.
The Head of UB Library also presented the development of UB Libraries in the last year, there are: UB repository managed to rank 1st in RAMA Repository, 2nd place and Favorite of Cultural Literacy Competition 2022, 2 papers successfully passed in KPDI Solo on 9-11 August 2022 and still many other achievements. Mr. Iwan Permadi also explained about the formation of the Assistance Team for Lecturers and Students by initiating Brawijaya Library Class and the integration of UB Library automation into Gapura UB.
During this visit, UB Rector also took the time to visit several rooms in UB library, including the building in the west which has not been used so far.
