National Defense Public Lecture: Strengthening National Values and Terrorism Prevention Strategy in Brawijaya University’s Environment

Deputy for Prevention, Protection and Deradicalization of BNPT. Maj. Gen. TNI Nisan Setiadi, SE., M.Sc., officially gave a public lecture to New Students of Brawijaya University (UB) at the Samantha Krida Building (Sakri) on Wednesday (27/9/2023). The event with the theme “Defending the Nation” was attended by more than 2000 New Students as well as Brawijaya University leadership, BNPT staff, the East Java Terrorism Prevention Coordination Forum (FKPT) team, and the East Java Cyber Peace Ambassadors.

The aim of this activity is to equip UB New Students with important knowledge about national values and strategies for preventing terrorism in the campus environment.

Vice Rector III for Student Affairs, Alumni and Student Entrepreneurship at UB, Dr. Setiawan Noerdajasakti, SH., MH., welcomed this activity and stated that this public lecture was part of the Introduction to New Student Campus Life (PKK-MB).

Dr. Setiawan also emphasized the importance of strengthening national values among UB students, in accordance with instructions from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemendikbudristek). UB has a serious commitment to instilling national insight and defending the country to all new students.

In a guest lecture, Major General TNI Nisan Setiadi, SE., M.Sc., explained the dangers of radicalism and terrorism. He invited students not to get caught up in ideologies that could divide national unity.

Setiadi also highlighted the role of cyberspace, which is often used by intolerant parties to spread messages that are contrary to the national spirit.

“We must be careful about the spread of radicalism, reject violence, and reject radical ideology and terrorism. “Let’s work together to create a peaceful and harmonious Indonesia with love for Pancasila, as the unifying ideology of the Indonesian nation,” said Setiadi.

This public lecture is one of UB’s concrete steps in supporting the terrorism prevention program and fostering National Defense education, as a real effort to develop students who are not only academically intelligent, but also have an awareness of the importance of national values.
