The Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) successfully held a guest lecture with the theme “Strategy for Building Digital Personal Branding: Optimizing LinkedIn, CV, and Professional Portfolio” as part of the Public Communication course in the Capstone Project series. This activity took place online on Friday (3/14/2025) and was attended by 363 students. The guest lecture was officially opened by Dr.Eng. Ir. Herman Tolle, S.T., M.T., as the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FILKOM UB, and guided by Tirana Noor Fatyanosa, S.Kom., M.Kom., Ph.D., as the moderator.

This guest lecture presents Imelia Loly Wijaya, S.Psi, Human Capital Business Partner Specialist & Certified Human (CHRM), Resource Manager PT Sucofindo, Indonesia. An expert in the field of digital personal branding, who provides in-depth insights into the importance of building a professional image through platforms such as LinkedIn, creating an attractive CV, and compiling an effective portfolio. Imelia explained that personal branding refers to a deliberate action by someone to create and communicate a unique and authentic identity that sets them apart from the professional world. In this guest lecture, students are invited to understand how consistency and creativity in managing digital identity can open up wider career opportunities.

Imelya conveyed several important points on LinkedIn optimization on this occasion, first, the importance of determining goals about what you want to achieve in personal branding. Designing an appropriate strategy that can be implemented to build a strong professional identity in the digital era. Second, quoted from the Linkedin Global Talent Trends Report, 2021. 77% of recruiters of prospective workers rely on LinkedIn when selecting prospective workers, so job history will be an element that is assessed. A consistent work history shows a commitment to the field being pursued will be an added value for recruiters. Prospective workers have a credible value because they show relevant experience and expertise,

“No less important is the existence of endorsements from other parties on LinkedIn. This is very important since endorsements will increase the credibility of students as prospective workers. Endorsements are also a quick way to strengthen personal branding, making profiles more attractive to recruiters or potential clients and increasing visibility among other professionals in the same industry,” explained Imelia.

In closing, the Chief Executive, Edita Rosana Widasari, S.T., M.T., M.Eng., Ph.D expressed her appreciation to all parties who have contributed to organizing this guest lecture. “We hope that students can apply the knowledge gained today in building their personal branding, so that they are better prepared to face the challenges of the world of work,” she said. With this guest lecture, it is hoped that FILKOM UB students will be increasingly aware of the importance of digital personal branding in pursuing a career and optimizing opportunities in the professional world.
