Three students of Master of Computer Science (MILKOM) from the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) became participants in a research collaboration held at Osaka University, Japan. Shafatyra Reditha Shalsadilla, Nugroho Wicaksono, and Asmuni Haris on (16/2/2025) departed for Japan and will return to Indonesia on (28/3/2025). This activity is a form of collaboration between the Intelligent System Laboratory of FILKOM UB and the Institute of Scientific and Industrial Research (ISIR), Osaka University. Previously, the ratification of the memorandum of cooperation between the two parties was signed on (11/9/2024). This research collaboration was carried out at the Yagi Laboratory, Department of Intelligent Media, which is located in the ISIR building, Osaka University.
This research was conducted over a period of six weeks starting from mid-February to the end of March 2025. During the research period, they visited the Yagi Laboratory to be accompanied by their respective supervisors. This collaborative research is expected to be an opportunity for students to learn outside the scope of FILKOM UB, as well as to contribute to the scientific field. Shafatyra, who is familiarly called Shafa, said that the research topics prepared by the Yagi Laboratory include gait recognition with supervisor Allam Shehata, Ph.D, health gait recognition with supervisor assist. Prof. Shuqiong Wu, and lensless imaging with supervisor Assoc. Prof. Tomoya Nakamura, Ph.D.
“We would like to thank UB and FILKOM, because we gained valuable experience to participate in research in Japan. This country is also one of the countries known for its technology. Also, we would like to thank our supervisors, Dr. Eng. Novanto Yudistira, S.Kom., M.Sc., Dr. Ir. Lailil Muflikhah, S.Kom., M.Sc., and Dr. Candra Dewi, S.Kom, M.Sc., for the advice and support for us for this research,” said Shafa.
Novanto as the supervising lecturer, said that this intension is part of the MoA between FILKOM UB and Sanken, Osaka University for research collaboration. This opportunity must be utilized as well as possible by the three of them.
“They happened to pass the UB STARS funding program. So the funding obtained supports each other, because the costs needed during the research are quite a lot. Hopefully, through this activity, it can increase the publication and experience of MILKOM students in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) 100 World University Rankings collaboration in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI),” explained Novanto.
