The real work lecture (KKN) group of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Brawijaya located in Gunungsari Village, Bumiaji District, Batu City, East Java has implemented a work program in the form of educational activities and demonstrations of making organic fertilizer from rose leaf waste. The activity was carried out on Saturday (6/7/2024) at the Final Waste Disposal Site (TPST3R) in Jantur Hamlet, Gunungsari Village. The activity was attended by Deni Muhammad Lukman as the head of Jantur Hamlet, Adi Setiawan as the speaker, representatives of BUMDES members of Gunungsari Village, the KKN committee consisting of 29 students, and representatives from local farmer groups.
The discussion and making of compost from rose plant waste and livestock waste aims to reduce waste from rose farming residues that are common for the Gunungsari Village Community which are simply thrown away. The composting process can have an impact on reducing leaf waste and unused rose plant parts to be used as fertilizer media for plants with the intention of unused rose agricultural output that can be used as additional input for the rose farming process in Gunungsari Village.
As a resource person for the compost fertilizer management training, Adi Setiawan on that occasion explained in detail what fertilizer is, the benefits of the fertilizer, and direct practice regarding the manufacturing process by utilizing rose leaf waste which is very potential in the village as organic material.
After being given a theory for approximately 30 minutes, the participants were immediately invited to practice and were given an explanation of the benefits of each material used. Previously, the participants who attended had also been given a brochure containing the procedures, tools and materials used to support the composting process with the aim that it could be practiced again by farmers and the local community.
Team Representative, Ilham Fachriansyah Astafa from the Agroecotechnology Study Program, Faculty of Agriculture hopes that the implementation of the work program for making compost from rose plant waste can be carried out by Gunungsari Village Community sustainably. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
