In September 2024, the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Brawijaya (FP UB) officially initiated international cooperation with the International Center of Biotechnology (ICBiotech), Osaka University, Japan. This cooperation aims to strengthen collaboration in the field of agricultural biotechnology research and development, as well as improve the quality of education in the fields of agriculture and biotechnology.
The discussion and signing of this cooperation agreement were carried out by four FP UB delegates consisting of Dr. Rina Rachmawati, S.P., M.P., M.Eng., Dr. Kurniawan Sigit Wicaksono, S.P., M.Sc., Dr. Irisa Trianti, S.P., M.P., M.Sc., and Dian Islami Prasetyaningrum, S.S., M.Pd. On that occasion, both parties agreed to run various joint programs involving research, student exchanges and foreign lecturers to support the development of innovative technologies that can support food security and agricultural sustainability.
Dian Islami Prasetyaningrum, Head of IRO FP UB said that this collaboration is a strategic step for FP UB to expand its international network and enrich research experience in the field of biotechnology.
“This collaboration will open opportunities for FP UB students and lecturers to be involved in global research and access the latest technology in the field of biotechnology that can be applied in the agricultural sector,” explained Dian.
Meanwhile, the Director of ICBiotech Osaka University, Prof. Kazuhito Fujiyama, welcomed this collaboration and hoped that it would have a positive impact on both parties.
“We are very enthusiastic about the potential of this collaboration, which will not only enrich research in the field of agricultural biotechnology, but also provide significant contributions to solutions of global agricultural problems, especially in facing the challenges of climate change,” he said.
This collaboration is expected to strengthen the synergy between FP UB and ICBiotech Osaka University in order to encourage the advancement of science and technology that is beneficial for the development of the agricultural sector and food security, both in Indonesia and globally.
