Construction of closed house modern layer of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB) has been completed. A total of 5000 laying hens aged 13 weeks, called pullets, were brought in to inhabit the cage.
The presence of these pullets was greeted with a celebration event while still implementing health protocols. Inviting Sumber Sekar Village and Karangmloko Village officials, as well as representatives from Fapet UB and PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia, Tbk (CPI), Thursday (1/10/2020).
The cage, which is located 50 meters from the Sumber Sekar field laboratory, was a grant from PT. CPI as the largest poultry company in Indonesia. Meanwhile, for pullets, PT. CPI applies a loan system, in which Fapet UB can return the capital from the marketing of eggs if the pullet is already in production.
According to the Vice Dean I of Fapet UB, Dr. M. Halim Natsir, the age of the chicken for the first time laying eggs is 18-19 weeks, which means five or six weeks from now. So, having adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D is necessary to produce optimal egg quality and quantity at peak production.
Meanwhile, the closed house cage will implement teaching farm, which can be used for practicum and research for lecturers and students, as well as media for developing poultry business insights. (dta / Humas UB/ Trans. Iir)
