2022 Kaleidoscope of the Faculty of Computer Science: Rising to Work after the Pandemic

Some time ago, sheet after sheet of achievements filled 2022. The Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) interprets each sheet with post-pandemic positive works and activities. The following is a summary of the activities in FILKOM UB in 2022.

 

January 2022

 

January 2022 FILKOM UB has the mandate to become the committee for the 59th UB Anniversary. A series of activities were held such as limited health walks, all stars football, talk shows as well as virtual concerts and alumni gatherings. In addition, the Student Creativity Building (GKM) was inaugurated by the then Rector of UB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Nuhfil Hanani, A.R., M.S.

This month FILKOM also prepares a hybrid class to support the teaching and learning process and become a pilot in UB according to the direction of UB Rector. In a number of classrooms, a number of tools to support hybrid lectures have been prepared and simulated by Vice Dean I for Academic Affairs in UB Philosophy, Dr. Eng. Herman Tolle, ST. MT. to several students.

 

February 2022

 

Hybrid lectures for Even Semester 2021/2022 will start this month, due to the pandemic, only a few students are present in person on campus, some are still attending online lectures from home. Students who attended in person were very enthusiastic about taking part in the lectures because for nearly 2 years students had only carried out lectures online.

Several webinars and talk shows were held this month, offline activities have also begun to be carried out even though with limited participants. The Information Systems Department held a workshop on the preparation and implementation of an OBE-based curriculum and there were also FILKOM lecturers giving guest lectures at Kediri Islamic University.

 

March 2022

 

FILKOM officially has a Professor in March 2022 namely Prof. Ir. Wayan Firdaus Mahmudy, S.Sc., M.T., Ph.D who is also the Dean of FILKOM. He is also listed as the 164th active professor in UB. In his inauguration Prof. Wayan delivered a scientific oration on the Development of Integrated Artificial Intelligence Methods for Optimizing Production and Distribution Processes in the Manufacturing Industry.

This month FILKOM UB also released a number of students from 101 Bangkit Programs, 245 MISB Programs and 2 Teaching Campuses. The release was carried out online by the Dean and Vice Dean I for Academic Affairs FILKOM UB

In addition, there was also the work and achievements of student Ahmad Syaifullah (Information Systems, FILKOM) who created a startup and was included in the Forbes 30 Under 30. Furthermore, 4 FILKOM students took part in POMPROV 2022 which was held in Malang Raya.

 

April 2022

 

The graph of the spread of Covid-19 which continues to decrease makes FILKOM dare to increase the capacity of students who attend in person in class. By continuing to implement the health protocol, students are permitted to be present on campus either to take part in lecture activities or discussions in open spaces provided by FILKOM UB.

April 2022 is also a sad month where the former Program Director of Information Technology and Computer Science (PTIIK) who is now FILKOM UB, namely Ir. Sutrisno, M.T. carry out his full service. The release event was held directly in FILKOM UB Algorithm Auditorium building attended by all FILKOM lecturers and educational staff.

This month the FILKOM Robotics team is also preparing to take part in the Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI), the Indonesian Flying Robot Contest (KRTI), and the Unmanned Fast Ship Contest (KKCTBN). This debriefing was attended by the Deputy Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Student Entrepreneurship, Drs. Muh. Arif Rahman, M.Kom to give enthusiasm and motivation to FILKOM UB Robotics team.

 

May 2022

 

FILKOM UB is one of the organizers of UTBK exam appointed by UB. Rector of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) Prof. Dr. Ir. Nuhfil Hanani AR., MS along with university leaders visited the location of the Computer-Based Writing Examination (UTBK) in the laboratory room of FILKOM’s G building which was the test location. FILKOM also received praise from the Rector for providing a transit area for the test takers in accordance with the health protocol which is located in the hallway of building F and building G of FILKOM. Because this transit area has good air circulation, it provides comfort for both organizers and participants in maintaining health protocols.

In addition, FILKOM also received a visit from Telkom Surabaya Institute which aims to make FILKOM Information Technology Study Program as a pilot. In addition to conducting comparative studies and learning from IT FILKOM UB Study Program, it is hoped that in the future there will be collaboration from Telkom Surabaya Institute with Universitas Brawijaya, especially FILKOM UB, both for conducting lecturer research, student exchanges or MBKM programs.

 

June 2022

 

FILKOM UB prepared the implementation of KKN activities for students in the second year. Several committees inspected locations directly in Malang Regency, such as in the Districts of Sumbermanjing Wetan, Poncokusumo, Gedangan, Bantur and Donomulyo. This KKN focuses on empowering the economy or marketing local products. Furthermore, for FILKOM students the focus achieved is the development of technology and IT in various sectors in the target area starting from the economic, education and tourism sectors.

This month, the FILKOM Robotics Team also won 3rd place at Bali Robot Competition State Polytechnic (PNBRC), besides that this team went to the 2022 National Level Indonesian Robot Contest (KRI)

 

July 2022

 

A total of 702 students of the Faculty of Computer Science (FILKOM UB) were officially released by the Rector of Universitas Brawijaya, Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Sc., PhD. Med.Sc who has carried out community service activities through the Thematic Real Work Lecture (KKN-T) program in five sub-districts in Malang Regency. This KKN is attended by students for 30 days until mid-August 2022.

In July 2022, FILKOM also successfully held the International Conference on Multidisciplinary Applications of Information Technology (ICOMIT) for the first time. This conference was held in a hybrid method (online and offline) in FILKOM Algorithm Auditorium. With the theme “Multidisciplinary Applications of Information Technology for Better Living in the Post-Pandemic Era.” at ICOMIT 2022 the organizing committee also invited three keynote speakers, namely (1) Dawn Owens, Ph.D from The University of Texas at Dallas; (2) Prof. Márton Lőrinc from Sapientia Hungarian University of Transylvania, Hungary and (3) Prof. Hiroki Tamura from Miyazaki University, Japan.

In addition, this month FILKOM received an offline visit from SMA for the first time after the pandemic. FILKOM received a visit from SMA Negeri 1 Ngunut (SMANUSA) Tulungagung which took place in the Algorithm Auditorium Building. The participants from SMANUSA consisted of 300 people consisting of class XII students of the Science and Social Sciences program and 15 supervising teachers. Of course, this activity is an opening for other high schools that will carry out visits to FILKOM UB.

 

August 2022

 

August 2022 was a busy month for the FILKOM Academic Community because they had to prepare for and take part in AQAS International accreditation, close the 2022 KKN activities and welcome new students through the 2022 PKKMB activities. The closing of the KKN was held on 12 August 2022; The opening of the PKKMB will be held on 20-21 August 2022; and AQAS international accreditation visitation on 22-26 August 2022.

The AQAS visit presented several experts to assess the quality of the study program. The Experts came from various institutions in Europe such as Prof. Dr. Zhen Dai from Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg, Germany); Prof. Dr. Gabriele Kunau from Fachhochschule Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Germany; Prof. Dr. Marco Platzner of Paderborn University, Germany; Barata Antarikas from TVET School, Bekasi; and Jessica Ziegler from the University of Potsdam, Germany (student representatives).

 

September 2022

 

After carrying out the AQAS visitation activities, FILKOM also conducted an online field assessment of Computer Engineering Study Program (TEKKOM) accreditation. Computer Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) in 2022 is applying for Study Program Accreditation at the Higher Education Accreditation Board (BAN-PT). The visitation phase (field assessment) by BAN-PT assessor was carried out online on 7-8 September 2022. The assessor assigned to carry out the field assessment was Prof. Drs. Heru Suhartanto, M.Sc., Ph.D. and Dr. Yani Nurhadryani, M.T. The two assessors had an academic background in the IT field, namely Prof. Drs. Heru Suhartanto, M.Sc., Ph.D. who came from the University of Indonesia (UI) while Dr. Yani Nurhadryani, M.T. from the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB).

Furthermore, three teams guided by lecturers from the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) were included in the Top 15 Final Capstone Project. Teams that are included in the Top 15 Final Capstone Project receive funding from Google and the Ministry of Education and Culture in the amount of 10 thousand dollars or Rp. 140,000,000 to continue developing applications to become a startup that collaborates directly with MSMEs.

 

October 2022

 

The Computer Science Masters Study Program succeeded in obtaining “excellent accreditation” from the national higher education accreditation board this month after an assessment was held the previous month. The assessment was carried out by Prof. Dr. Ir. Agus Buono, M.Si., M.Kom. who came from the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) with Dr. Nur Rokhman, S.Si., M.Kom. from Gajah Mada University (UGM) Yogyakarta

The third year of 4C Competition Finals was held offline for the first time. Due to the pandemic, the previous final activity was held right online. The number of applicants has increased drastically from the previous year. Last year (2021) the number of registrants was 181, while this year there were 244 teams.

 

November 2022

 

FILKOM held 2 scientific conferences in a hybrid manner, namely the 7th International Conference on Sustainable Information Engineering and Technology (SIET 2022) and the National Seminar on Information Technology and Engineering (SENTRIN). This year SIET received 60 publication titles, while SENTRIN received 34 titles. SIET and SENTRIN invited several keynote speakers including Prof. Katalin Hangos from the University of Pannonia, Hungary; Prof. Bian Yang from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology; Prof. Dr. Arif Muntasa, S.Sc., M.T from Trunojoyo University, Madura and Romi Satria Wahono, Ph.D are researchers and industry practitioners as well as Founder & CEO of Ilmucomputer.com, Braindevs.ID and Brainmatrics.ID.

Beside that, FILKOM UB was also appointed as the final venue for the most prestigious IT competition in the country, GEMASTIK XV. This competition was first held in UB with a total of 224 teams from universities all over Indonesia. The FILKOM building used for GEMASTIK XV includes building F for participant registration, transit room for participants and the jury as well as technical meetings; Student Creativity Building floors 3 and 4 for warm-up and division 1, 2 and 3 competitions; as well as the 2nd floor G building Algorithm Auditorium for the closing ceremony.

This November FILKOM also held a Dean’s Cup for new students (maba) Batch 2022. This year’s Dean’s Cup is included in a series of student critique activities which are attended by all new FILKOM UB students with various fields of competition including Reasoning and Student Creativity which cover seven PKM field, then there is entrepreneurship competition as well as interests and talents. Interests and talents consist of poster design competitions, infographic designs, video animations, debate competitions, Al-Qur’an application designs and Fahmil Qur’an quizzes and Syarhil Qur’an assessments.

In commemoration of the 11th Anniversary of the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB), held a healthy walk. The agenda for the event included a healthy walk, an entertainment stage with performances from Vinoqi Entertainment and a door prize draw for participants of the healthy walk. FILKOM also carried out a tetenger bumi program in which 110 trees were planted in Sumbermanjing Wetan (Sumawe) District, Malang Regency. The trees consist of 55 avocado trees and 55 durian trees. the implementation of Tetenger Bumi activities in collaboration with the Association of Farmers Groups (Gapoktan) of Sumawe District.

 

December 2022

 

The final round and announcement of the winners for the 2022 Dean’s Cup were held this month by presenting talents and champions at the batch of 2022 new students level. This activity was attended by all levels of the Dean’s Leadership, Department of Study Programs and committees of lecturers, education staff and students. Besides, there was also a band and dance performance from the new students that adorned the inauguration event and this year’s Dean’s Cup Final. At the end of the closing activity by striking the gong as a symbol that new students are declared to have passed the student critique and become FILKOM students.

The Faculty of Computer Science has also succeeded in obtaining AQAS International Accreditation (Agentur für Qualitätssicherung Durch Akcreditierung von Studiengängen). After carrying out a field assessment from 22 to 26 August 2022 by Prof. Dr. Zhen Dai from Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW Hamburg, Germany); Prof. Dr. Gabriele Kunau from Fachhochschule Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts, Germany; Prof. Dr. Marco Platzner of Paderborn University, Germany; Barata Antariksa from TVET School, Bekasi; and Jessica Ziegler from the University of Potsdam, Germany (student representatives).
