Religious radicalism can be present in the clutch through social media. Thus the message to be conveyed in “Nonton Bareng dan Diskusi Film Jihad Selfie/Watching Movies Together and Movies Discussions” at Nuswantara Auditorium, Faculty of Social and Political Science, Brawijaya University, on Wednesday (21/Mar/2018). The event was organized by Department of Political Science, Governance and International Relations (PPHI) in collaboration with PSP2M (Pusat Studi Pesantren dan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat/Centre for Pesantren Studies and Community Empowerment) Brawijaya University.
This event is a form of commemoration of Day of Elimination on Rational Discrimination Worldwide on 21 March 1966 initiated by the shooting of the apartheid regime in South Africa when blacks protested racist and full of discrimination law to them on 21 March 1960.
Yusli Effendi, Secretary of PPHI Department at faculty of Social and Political Science as well as Head of Convener and moderator of the event mentioned that terrorism group also in discriminative behavior. “Recently terror group like ISIS also discriminative and negates against non-Muslim communities and even among Muslim but in different understanding with them,” he said.
After watching the movie together, the event was continued with a discussion and invited M. Rizki Maulana from Prasasti Perdamaian Foundation (YPP) Jakarta as the producer of Jihad Selfie Movie and Wahyuni Widyaningsih, a feminist from Center for Marginalized Communities Studies (Cmars) and Jaringan Gus Durian Nasional. The event was followed by academic communities of Brawijaya University and various faculties, researchers at Litbang Kemenag RI (Reserch and Development of the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia) and publics.
Rizki Maulana emphasized that the movie was produced as anti-radicalism campaign because Indonesians are reluctant to read the book and having discussions. The movie directed by oor Huda Islami is a documentary movie recorded a journey of Indonesian Scholar’s from Aceh, Tengku Akbar Maulana. Akbar who obtained scholarship from Imam Hatib Religious School in Turkey wants to join with ISIS in Syria after he was tempted by his friends that looks manly and cool because of his pose with AK 47 weapon at Facebook.
Through this film, Widyaningsih mentioned the roles of family. “Family has roles as the castle that muffle the radicalism exposure, commonly targeting youths who look for identity,” he said. Meanwhile Dr. Mohammad Anas, as Head of PSP2M also mentioned about the roles of PSP2M in society. “We are at Centre for Pesantren Studies also takes a part in counteract youth religious radicalism through education of media literation and religion in Muslim Leader Camp program that we organize,” she ended.
