One of the functions of higher education is to play a role in community service. This is Universitas Brawijaya conducting in the LPPM UB’s 1000 Village Movement in 2023. To prepare for the implementation of this program, the Institute for Research and Community Service Universitas Brawijaya held a Student Coordination and Synchronization Workshop to Build 1000 Villages. The activity which was carried out online was attended by 250 participants, including Regional Heads in East Java, Vice Governor of East Java, Head of the Regional Planning and Development Agency in East Java, Chair of BPPM faculties and postgraduates and coordinating lecturers for KKN UB area, on Wednesday (04 /1/2023). According to Prof. Luchman Hakim, S.Sc., M.Agr.Sc., Ph.D as the Head of LPPM UB, this activity is the first step for LPPM to equalize perceptions. “This workshop is the first step of LPPM UB to equalize the vision. The theme is Sustainable Village, which is aligned with the SDG’s program. We hope that today’s agenda is able to equalize perceptions for the success of this program, “he explained.

In line with Prof. Luchman, UB Rector, Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Sc. Ph.D MedSc also invites students, lecturers and experts in UB to get involved. “This program has three objectives, namely to increase student competence in solving problems, making campuses to develop knowledge, and synergizing with regional leaders, to build sustainable villages,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of East Java Province, Emil Elestianto Dardak appreciated the program to build 1000 villages by LPPM. “There are many people’s views that the village is an object, not a subject of development. However, this is massively disrupted by digital technology, where we don’t need to gather in one place, but all activities can run,” he explained.
Through technology, Emil added, it was a big opportunity for the village to progress. “Of course, this opportunity must be balanced with advanced resources. And with this program, we can inject knowledge capital to be more agile and adaptive in seizing these opportunities,” he explained. (tarish/vQ/ Humas UB/ Trans. Iir)
