Approaching the 59th Anniversary, UB Targets to Plan 1000 Trees

Approaching the commemoration of the 59th anniversary, as well as an effort to preserve the environment, Universitas Brawijaya planted a number of trees. The activity entitled Tetenger Bumi was held on Saturday (12/18/2021) at Telon Alas Magersari Kedampul, Duwet Village, Tumpang District, Malang Regency.

Tetenger Bumi is a tree planting activity initiated by the Faculty of Computer Science. According to Dr. Wayan Firdaus Mahmudy S.Si., M.T., Ph.D as the Head of UB’s 59th Anniversary Committee, he hopes that this activity can be adopted by various institutions. “The hope is that, after the activities are completed, there will be a legacy left, namely a living tree. Said this as a start, to provoke other parties to carry out similar activities,” he said.

Tetenger Bumi, according to Tibyani, S.T., M.T. as Chief Executive, is a community service program to preserve water, trees and the environment. “This year, the target for Tetenger Bumi is 1000 trees, consisting of forest plants and fruit trees from the archipelago,” explained the Lecturer of the Faculty of Communication Sciences. Presented in this activity were the Dean and Vice Dean of Filkom, village officials, as well as the representatives of Filkom and FT students.

The Handover of Plant Packages

This activity received positive appreciation from local village officials. Through this event, the head of the local hamlet hopes that it can run and be sustainable and provide great benefits for the residents of Kedampul Hamlet.

Besides this location, there will also be planting of various mangoes in UB Kediri area. In January, a similar activity will be held in Pujon area. In addition to tree planting, this activity also carried out the inauguration of the Environmental Gazebo in Telon Alas, symbolically planting trees and giving plant packages that were handed over to villagers. This plant package consists of 59 Ketapang Kencana trees, 59 Mahogany trees, 59 Eucalyptus Rainbow trees, 59 grafted Petai trees, 59 Siem oranges or Keprok Honey trees and 59 bags of IO Waste organic fertilizer made by UB students.
