Investigation and In-depth Reporting Writing Are the Same but Different

Investigation writing and in-depth reporting at first glance seem the same, but they are actually different. Investigations are more related to legal issues, while in-depth writing is not related to legal issues.

The explanation was put forward by Tempo journalist, Abdi Purmono, Sunday (2/6) while providing in-depth reporter material in advanced journalism training. This activity was the second day of community service by FISIP-UB in collaboration with the Student Campus Press Activity Unit (UAPKM)-UB.

The important issue in writing investigations and in-depth writing, according to the lecturer at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang, is that it is very dependent on the ability to dig up data. Without complete, in-depth, and comprehensive data.

In writing investigations related to law, he emphasized, one of the difficulties is related to finding sources or informants who are truly competent. “It takes serious effort until the source trusts the journalist or reporter,” he added.

After sufficient data, the next problem, revealed the journalist who is familiarly called Abel, is related to writing skills. “From the complete data, it is necessary to consider whether the data will be written in the form of straight news or features. Because both forms can be written from the same data,” he explained.

In the activity, Abel also told how he conducted an investigation into the Covid-19 problem. How difficult it is to find data on things that are often covered up or covered up by many parties. In order to obtain data, journalists or reporters must be resourceful and clever at positioning themselves to obtain data. (mon/VQ/ UBPR/ Trans. Iir)
