Three students from the Vocational Faculty of Universitas Brawijaya (FVUB) took part in the Summer Short Course at Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) in Seri Iskandar, Perak, Malaysia. They are Rio Teguh Santoso, Benardi Denoprio Butar Butar, and M. Mujib, from the Information Systems Department, batch of 2022.
This activity is one of Brawijaya International Student Mobility Award (BISMA) programs which will take place in June 2024 at Persiaran UTP, Malaysia.
Rio Teguh Santoso said that his interest in participating in BISMA was to improve interpersonal, problem-solving and leadership skills, as well as create unforgettable memories with new and memorable experiences.
In this program they also take linear classes with courses in the Information Systems department.
“We and other participants took part in various classes covering Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Information and Software Engineering, as well as special sessions from industry practitioners. In addition, we are involved in practical projects such as making traffic lights and implementing sensors on automatic fans in restaurants,” said Rio.
Benardi Denoprio Butar Butar also added that they not only learned from UTP lecturers, but also from industry practitioners such as Google and Change Maker.
“It’s quite challenging but impactful,” said Benardi.
Rio, Benardi, and Mujib also had the opportunity to take part in challenging team activities, such as exploring Tempurung Cave, IPOH local tour, visiting Silverlake Village, Twin Tower Kuala Lumpur, and other corners of the neighboring country.
“This experience not only honed our technical skills, but also taught us problem solving on other people’s land. In addition to increasing academic understanding, we learned the culture of a neighboring country, Malaysia,” concluded M. Mujib. [Hilya/Irene/ UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
