International Academic Affair (IAA) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) on Friday (31/5/2024) held IISMA Awarding Day & Pre-Depature Briefing 2024 which was held at the Auditorium Building, Universitas Brawijaya.
The activity with the theme “Celebrating the Journey to Global Excellence” was opened directly by UB Chancellor, Prof. Widodo, Ssi., M.Sc., Ph.D.Med.Sc., and attended by all university and faculty leaders in UB as well as IISMA recipient students and their parents.
In his report, the Head of UPT International Academic Affairs, Dr. Didik Hartono, S.S., M.Pd, said that the Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) program is one part of the Independent Campus program initiated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemdikbudristek). ”IISMA is a scholarship for one semester to study at a foreign university,” explained Didik.
Didik explained the development of IISMA participants from Universitas Brawijaya (UB) since 2021. In that year, UB recorded the highest number of participants in Indonesia with 63 students. However, due to the implementation of new regulations by Dikti, the number of participants in 2022 decreased to 57 students. In 2023, the number of participants increased to 78 students, and in 2024 it reaches 121 students.
At the end of his report, Didik expressed his gratitude and pride to IISMA UB Awardees and hoped that the participants could make the best use of the time they had and become ambassadors for the nation and for Universitas Brawijaya.
“One semester is not a long time, so students must give their best and fill this time with useful activities. You must be able to become ambassadors for the nation and ambassadors for Universitas Brawijaya,” concluded Didik.
Meanwhile, UB Chancellor Prof. Widodo in his speech said that the experience of studying abroad was to form networks and develop oneself. “Six months is enough time to form a network. Don’t return to Indonesia without friends,” he said. He also emphasized the importance of showing Indonesia’s noble culture abroad.
“In class, if there is a lecturer teaching, show your capacity and build individual branding so that other people are interested in IISMA UB,” said Prof. Widodo. He expressed his pride to the students who were accepted at IISMA and called this a very good opportunity to develop themselves internationally.
“I am proud of you. This is an opportunity to improve oneself, show that our civilization is good, and create networks. What can encourage us is ourselves, not other people. We can be better than others and we can be leaders for the global community,” he concluded.
On this occasion, the sash embedding was also given to four Awardee representatives and was followed by all Awardees independently, as well as a briefing which presenting speakers including Dr. Didik Hartono, S.S., M.Pd., (IAA UB), Henny Rosalinda, S.IP., M.A., Ph.D (Lecturer in HI FISIP UB) and Yuliezar Perwira Dara, S.Psi., M.Psi., (Psychology Lecturer at FISIP UB) as well as Sharing Session by IISMA Alumni 2021-2023. .(wdd/ron/UB PR/ Trans.
