IEEE Electrical Engineering Collaborates with Respect.id to Hold IoT Training

The Electrical Engineering Study Program, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Universitas Brawijaya (IEEE UB), and Respect.id held an educational activity entitled “Introduction to Internet of Things (IoT) Technology for the Young Generation and Educators in the Digital Era” at SD Negeri 1 Sumber Sekar, Malang City (4/14/2025). This activity aims to introduce IoT technology to children from an early age and build their interest in science and technology.

One of the committee members, M. Asyir Z, said that this activity is part of IEEE’s mission to advance technology, especially in education.

“We want to start a simple change, introducing IoT and AI to the younger generation as early as possible and helping teachers to utilize technology productively. Hopefully, the children at SDN 1 Sumber Sekar can grow into a critical, creative, and adaptive generation,” said M Asyir Z.

In this activity, students are introduced to the basic concept of IoT through an easy-to-understand interactive approach. By utilizing simple props such as ultrasonic clotheslines, students can see firsthand how IoT devices work and communicate in the real world. Moreover, this introductory session is also designed to arouse children’s curiosity by providing examples of IoT applications that are close to their daily lives, such as smart homes, data-based transportation systems, to how everyday devices such as lights and fans that can be connected and controlled via the internet network.

“We believe that technology is not a barrier, but a bridge. These activities are the first step so that the next generation of the nation will not only be spectators in the development of world technology, but also major players who help create innovative solutions for their environment,” said Najwa Aisyah as the chief executive and closing the activity.

This collaboration is expected not to stop here. IEEE UB SB, the IoT Department of Electrical Engineering UB, and Respect.id are committed to continuing to hold similar programs in various schools in the Malang area and its surroundings, in order to support the strengthening of digital literacy from an early age.
