The Integrated Service Unit for Sexual Violence and Bullying (ULTKSP) of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya successfully held a seminar entitled “Toxic Relationship: Abuse is Not Love” at the Widyaloka Building, Universitas Brawijaya.
This event is part of ULTKSP FISIP’s efforts to provide education and increase awareness among academics and the general public about the importance of understanding healthy relationships and recognizing the signs of toxic relationships.
This seminar was held in collaboration with the Institut Français d’Indonésie (IFI) – Embassy of France Jakarta, Yayasan Pulih, and Jakarta Feminist. According to the head of the committee and head of the education and prevention division of Sexual Violence and Bullying (KSP) ULTKSP FISIP, Fitri Hariana Oktaviani, PhD, as many as 160 participants consisting of students, lecturers, and the general public attended this activity.
The seminar presented two expert speakers, namely Naila Rizqi Zakiah from Jakarta Feminist and Husna Faizah, M.Psi., Psychologist, who provided in-depth perspectives related to the theme raised.
The first session was opened by Naila Rizqi Zakiah, who explained the basic concept of violence, types of violence, and its impacts, especially those based on gender and sexuality. Naila also introduced the concept of consent through the acronym C.R.I.S.P., which includes Considered, Reversible, Informed, Specific, and Participatory.
In her presentation, Naila emphasized that violence does not only occur in the real world, but also in cyberspace, such as hacking or the distribution of non-consensual intimate content. She invited participants to be more vigilant and protect their “digital bodies”.
The second session was continued by Husna Faizah, M.Psi., Psychologist, with the material “Abuse is Not Love”. Husna invited participants to recognize the characteristics of a healthy relationship, namely a relationship that creates a sense of security, equality, and mutuality without domination from one party. She also discussed nine signs of violence in a relationship, such as ignoring, threatening, belittling, manipulating, jealousy, controlling, intervening, isolating, and intimidating. In addition, Husna emphasized the importance of accompanying victims of violence with empathy and support.
In his remarks, the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Bambang Dwi Prasetyo, expressed his appreciation for the holding of this seminar.
“I hope this activity can provide new insights to FISIP students and the academic community of Universitas Brawijaya regarding the topic of toxic relationships and gender-based violence that still often occurs in the campus environment. I also hope that similar activities can continue to provide a wider positive impact,” said Dr. Bambang.
This seminar is expected to be the first step to increase awareness of the campus community about the importance of building healthy relationships and stopping all forms of gender-based violence. With this seminar, ULTKSP FISIP UB shows its commitment to support the creation of a safe and inclusive campus environment. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
