Three students of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB), namely Arlieza Rizki, Ery Vio Verawati and Rozaan Rofie’ Iskani under the guidance of Dr. Ir. Kuswati, MS., IPM., ASEAN Eng made a rabbit pellet feed product made from rumen waste.
The high price of feed in the market is due to the ingredients used, so it is necessary to apply innovation in order to reduce production costs.
HERBI Feed is a complete feed product for broiler rabbits which is substituted with beef rumen contents from Slaughterhouse waste as an alternative source of crude fiber.
“The high nutritional content of rumen waste has great potential as a feed ingredient, especially as a source of fiber,” said one of the team member, Arlieza.
In addition to dry rumen contents, the composition of HERBA Feed contains compositions of copra meal, rice bran, salt, soybean meal, beef rumen content, premix, molasses, pollard, and cassava flour.
“From this formulation, pellets were obtained with a crude protein content of 15.32%, crude fiber of 17.69%, crude fat of 3.01% and dry material of 88.66%,” said Arlieza Rizki.
HERBI Feed is available in three packaging sizes, namely 1 kg, 3 kg, and 10 kg at a price of IDR 7,000/kg.
In addition to working with the poultry shop, this product is also marketed through Shopee, Facebook, and Instagram with the account name @herbifeed.
It is hoped that this product will overcome the problems that exist in the Slaughterhouse industry and become one of the pioneers who support the zero waste movement in the industrial world, especially livestock. (ARL/Humas UB/ Trans. Iir).
