Five students from the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES) and the Faculty of Medicine (FK) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) conducted research entitled “GEM FOR CARE: Exploring the Experience of Indonesian Female Students Using Bracelet Media as Mood-Forecasting to Reduce Suicide Rates Based on Social Sensitivity”. They are Marcellina Tiarani Putri, Nur Ismah Khairani Muhdin, Andina Hurinnisa, Olympia Zahradewi, and Aisyah Yulia Indah Sari.
The Team Leader, Marcellina Tiarani Putri said that mental health is often a problem among students which can trigger stress. This is generally due to a lot of pressure both from lecture assignments and the social environment.
“Actually, stress can be reduced with appropriate coping mechanisms and expressing stress in positive ways, without harming yourself or others. Therefore, coping management solutions are needed that can divert attention. One of them is by stringing beaded bracelets. The bonus is that it can increase focus,” said Marcellina.
The reason for choosing bracelet media is because beaded bracelets themselves are popular among teenagers. Based on research, it was found that stringing beaded bracelets can relieve tension, improve mood, and provide a feeling of happiness.
“By stringing beaded bracelets, your concentration will be shifted to fun things so that stressors can be reduced,” she said.
This research is included in SDGs point number three, namely ensuring healthy lives and promoting prosperity for all ages.

In the first series of research carried out, the GEM FOR CARE team conducted a workshop on Saturday, [11/05/2024] at FIKES UB Campus 2 Building regarding “Stress Management” with Ns. Renny Nova., S.Kep., M.Kep. , Sp.Kep.J, as well as the activity of stringing beaded bracelets.
This activity was attended by 34 female students from FIKES, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Faculty of Cultural Studies, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, and Faculty of Computer Science. This research focuses on the effectiveness of using beaded bracelets as a method to reduce stress levels experienced by female students.
With the slogan “Embrace the Beauty Within, Create Your Own Sunshine”, the GEM FOR CARE team succeeded in qualifying for funding for the Social Humanities Research Student Creativity Program (PKM-RSH) through the guidance of lecturer Ns. Renny Nova., S.Kep., M.Kep., Sp.Kep.J.
PKM-RSH itself is an activity that becomes a forum for student creativity and innovation in the field of research in accordance with scientific principles. In this PKM-RSH, students are expected to be able to criticize phenomena that exist in society using a scientific approach, use appropriate methods in searching and exploring information, analyze information using theory, and provide answers to problems that arise from these phenomena.
