Since UB has the status of a Legal Entity University (PTNBH), the plan to design the establishment of a new study program is one of the work structures of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) which has been the focus of the last few years. With the presence of PTNBH, of course, the proposed new study program can be implemented at the university level, without having to be tied directly to the central ministry. Through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) activities, Thursday (19/5/2022), Universitas Brawijaya Educational Development Institute (LPP UB) together with the Center for Academic and Professional Education Development (P3AP) are preparing to finalize the draft standard operating procedure (SOP) of the proposed study program in which it will be approved by Prof. Dr. Aulanni’am, drh, DES later, Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs.
Head of P3AP, Prof. Dr. eng. Widya Wijayanti ST, MT said that there are nine new studies that will enter the review process this year, while 30 other new study programs are still submitting proposals to be reviewed immediately.
According to him, P3AP itself has not been able to conduct a review without a clear SOP, so by holding this FGD, it is hoped that the SOP will be well structured and will be finalized.
“This FGD accommodates the demands of the interests of opening a new study program which is awaited by the community outside the campus through quality assurance considerations, so that later the formation of a new study program can be in accordance with the university’s expectations. It becomes a standard rule that can be initiated by reviewers,” he said.
It is undeniable that certain study programs experience a fairly long and complicated application process compared to some other study programs. The submission goes through a process of benchmarking, visitation, improvement and evaluation until it is submitted to the Rector, submission to LPP and a decision at the University Academic Senate (SAU). Considering that this discussion forum is not only aimed at preparing SOPs and finalizing drafts, but how the new study program can achieve the best quality through excellent accreditation. Until now, UB has had 60 excellent study programs, including the latest one is Undergraduate of Statistics from the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) and previously there were several undergraduate and postgraduate study programs from the Faculty of Engineering.[IND/Humas UB/ Trans.
