On Tuesday (11/26/2024), the signing of the Collaboration Implementation Agreement (IA) between the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya (FPIK UB) and PT. Sekar Laut, Tbk. (Finna Food) which contains research collaboration to support the Kotabaru Shrimp Fisheries Improvement Project (FIP), South Kalimantan.
Taking place at PT. Sekar Laut, Tbk., this activity began with an in-depth discussion on the direction and plan of research collaboration, followed by the signing of the IA document by Mr. Timotius Defry (Quality Manager of PT. Sekar Laut, Tbk.) and Mrs. Feni Iranawati, S.Pi., M.Sc., Ph.D. (Head of the Department of Utilization of Fisheries and Marine Resources, FPIK UB).
Kotabaru Shrimp Fishery is one of the producers of raw materials for the shrimp cracker industry which has a global market. PT. Sekar Laut, Tbk., as one of the food industries based on fishery products, utilizes fishery products from Kotabaru to produce shrimp crackers, where 60% of this product is marketed to the international market. With this collaboration, it is hoped that the management of shrimp fisheries in Kotabaru can be more sustainable while supporting the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification efforts.
The collaboration between FPIK UB and PT. Sekar Laut, Tbk. shows the commitment of both parties in strengthening scientific-based research to support sustainable fisheries management in Indonesia. In addition, this collaboration is also a strategic step to increase the added value of Indonesian fishery products in the global market.
