Vice Dean III of the Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Brawijaya (FP-UB) Dr.Agr.Sc. Hagus Tarno, SP., MP as a representative of the university academics carried out tree planting in commemoration of the National Waste Care Day (HPSN) which falls every February 21.

This HPSN commemoration activity was held by Malang City Government, in this case the Environmental Service in collaboration with Indonesian Adiwiyata Activist Association (HPAI) DPW Malang Raya, at Supit Urang Landfill, Monday (21/02/2022). Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji and the Deputy Mayor were present at this tree planting activity.

“This tree planting is a form of concern for the environment and efforts to prevent global warming,” said Hagus.

In this activity, Hagus was accompanied by seven students from the Independent Learning-Independent Campus (MBKM). The students also played a role in the success of Eco Enzym team by distributing Eco Enzyme products to all participants, as well as learning more deeply about Eco Enzymes and how they are made.

Hagus said that this activity was also the beginning of their internship within the Environment Service of Malang City. This internship will last for one semester. They cooperate with environmental cadres in several areas of Malang City to participate in raising public awareness in waste management, especially organic waste.

“With the participation of students and other participants, it is expected that they can become the agents of change for the surrounding community to increase awareness of the importance of cleanliness, especially being able to contribute to the world in preventing global warming,” said Hagus.

The HPSN 2022 event was also attended by 48 schools throughout Malang City, from elementary, junior high, and high school/equivalent levels. Mayor of Malang, Drs. H. Sutiaji conveyed about the importance of protecting the environment, especially from the threat of global warming that is currently happening.

HPSN 2022 is an important warning for Indonesian people to care about the waste that is produced every year. HPSN comes from an idea from many parties to commemorate the events in Leuwigajah, Cimahi, West Java on February 21, 2005. The tragedy made people aware that waste can pose a serious threat to the environment and kill humans. [Ryt/Irene/ Humas UB/ Trans. Iir]
