FMIPA UB Opens Study Monitoring Access for Students’ Parents

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya (FMIPA UB) held a socialization of the Student Academic Information System (SIAM), Saturday-Sunday, (8-9/3/2025), at the Hall of MIPA CENTER Building, FMIPA UB.

This activity aims to provide information to parents regarding the monitoring of their children’s academic development online. With this activity, it is hoped that good communication can be built between the faculty and parents of students in order to minimize misunderstandings regarding student academic matters.

The event was attended by the Dean, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs (VD 1), Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni (VD 3), Head of Academic, Student Affairs, Alumni, Student Cooperation and Entrepreneurship, Head of Personnel and Finance, and parents/guardians of FMIPA UB students of the 2023 and 2024 batches.

The Dean of FMIPA, Ratno Bagus Edy Wibowo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D in his remarks said that the presence of SIAM is a solution for parents to more easily access their children’s academic information, such as class schedules, grades, attendance status, and tuition fee payments.

“We invite you to play an active role in providing motivation and open communication. We have provided the Academic Information System facility so that you can obtain the widest possible information on academics, organizations, and your child’s lectures,” explained the Dean.

In addition, the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Nurjannah, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D hopes that parents can become partners for FMIPA UB academics during their studies.

“Many students listen more to their parents than to lecturers, this is a collaboration between lecturers and parents. We need the role of parents because we do not live with students. If there is a problem, you can consult with us,” said Nurjannah.

In his presentation, the Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Prof. Chomsin Sulistyo Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph,D said that many students experience study problems when they are in their final semester. According to him, a number of students are subject to study evaluations and even drop out because there are still many grades that do not allow them to graduate.

“The problem is students whose number of credits does not meet the requirements in semester 14, and there are still many E grades. Before that happens, we ask you to monitor your children,” he explained.

Head of Academic, Student Affairs, Alumni, Cooperation and Student Entrepreneurship Ika Wuriyanti, SE., MM explained the SIAM application, including student attendance, class schedules, exam schedules, absences, recap of study results and final assignments. Then continued by the Head of Personnel and Finance, Yudie Wiro Eko Setyawan S.Si. Wiro explained about the financial system, SIBAKU (Financial Assistance System), UKT and IPI.

Participants received direct guidance on how to access and use SIAM, including login steps, navigation in the system, and the main features available. In addition, a question and answer session was also held to answer various questions and obstacles that parents might face in using this system.

The activity, which was carried out in a hybrid manner for 2 consecutive days, was attended by 67 parents offline, 600 participants via zoom and 125 participants via YouTube. [Yog/Irene/ UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
