FMIPA Holds Monitoring and Evaluation of Students’ Study Results

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Universitas Brawijaya (FMIPA UB) held a Monitoring and Evaluation (Monev) activity for student study results, Saturday (02/15/2025), at the MC building, 1st floor, FMIPA UB. This activity was carried out to identify obstacles faced by students in the learning process, as well as to provide solutions so that students can graduate on time. So that it is expected to improve academic quality and ensure the smoothness of student studies.

The Monev involved undergraduate students in semesters 10, 12 and 14, Masters’ students in semesters 6 and 8, Doctoral students in semesters 10, 12 and 14, from various study programs. Students were given direction so that they could complete their studies without exceeding the study period limit. This activity also involved the Head of Study Program, Head of Department, and parents/guardians or direct superiors for doctoral students. In the consultation session, students were given the opportunity to convey the academic obstacles they faced, ranging from learning methods, study load, to supporting facilities.

Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of FMIPA, Nurjannah, S.Si., M.Phil., Ph.D., said that monitoring and evaluation of student study results is very important to ensure that students get solutions to problems in their studies.

“This is a momentum that can be used to discuss the development of student studies. I am sure that student problems are not the same, we are committed to trying to see case by case, and of course we really need the role of parents to provide information about student conditions so that we can communicate in two directions. Our hope is that students already have a timeline for the future, have weekly targets so that they can graduate soon,” said Nurjannah.

Some of the main findings from this monitoring and evaluation include the need for increased flexibility in learning methods, optimization of academic guidance, and the provision of more digital learning resources. In addition, students also proposed that the study evaluation system be more adaptive to student needs, especially for those who experience obstacles in completing their thesis or final assignment.

One of the students who participated in this activity, Irnawansyah (Physics), said that this similar forum really helps students to convey their aspirations.

“I am really helped by this activity, FMIPA UB academics really care about the progress of students’ studies who have obstacles approaching graduation, including me who was once discouraged by seeing my poor course grades. However, due to the motivation, direction, and good spirit from the Head of Study Program, the supervisor, and the academic section of FMIPA UB, I am now confident and more enthusiastic about being able to graduate this semester,” he said.

Head of Academic, Student Affairs, Alumni, Cooperation and Student Entrepreneurship Subdivision, Ika Wuriyanti, SE., MM advised students to pay attention to the remaining study period. Ika also hopes that students can take most advantages of this Monitoring and Evaluation activity.

This activity was attended by 72 onsite students (offline) and 70 online students via Zoom.

As a follow-up to this activity, FMIPA UB will prepare academic policy recommendations based on the evaluation results and will continue to monitor its effectiveness. It is hoped that this activity can become a routine agenda to create an academic environment that is more responsive and adaptive to student needs.

With this Monev, it is hoped that the quality of education in Higher Education can continue to be improved so that students can complete their studies better and are ready to face challenges in the world of work. [Yog/Irene/ UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
