The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya (FKH UB) is implementing an innovative Pilot Project livestock data profiling program in Tegowangi Village, Kediri. The activity, which was held on Saturday (06/07/2024), is one of UB Doctoral Programs which aims to monitor the health, tracking, and identification of livestock that is practical and easily accessible to farmers and animal health workers.
This activity was initiated by drh. Gretania Residiwati, M.Sc. Ph.D by involving five FKH UB students, namely Ilham Arta Wiguna, Kadek Karma Wahana, Dimas Rafi Hardiyanto, Farahdina Ika Nazhifah, and Astita Faizzerlina Islami.
Drh. Gretania Residiwati, M.Sc. Ph.D said that door-to-door data collection was carried out on most cattle farmers in Tegowangi Village. The data required includes the name of the farmer, address and coordinates of the livestock location, type of livestock, age of livestock, livestock color, purpose of maintenance, number, history of previous owners, mating method, straw identity, vaccine history, and health condition.
The collected data is then presented in the form of an application barcode that will be installed in each pen to provide detailed information about livestock.
“Farmers will be able to easily access this data to obtain livestock history information. With this data, it is hoped that animal health workers can provide more effective and targeted services to livestock, simply by scanning the barcode that will be placed in the location in front of the cattle pen according to the data recording,” explained Gretania.
The livestock data profiling program, which is planned to be ready within 1.5 months, is expected to not only provide short-term benefits in the form of increased productivity, but is also expected to provide long-term impacts in the form of increasing the welfare of local farmers and developing the village economy as a whole.
“With this innovative program, Tegowangi Village is expected to be a successful example for other villages in adopting technology and data analysis in the livestock sector. Real Work Lecture- Doctoral Service Team students continue to be committed to making real contributions to the community through various innovative and sustainable community service programs,” said Gretania.
Meanwhile, Tegowangi Village officials, Hadi Saputro hope that with this program, farmers in this village can get a clearer picture of the condition of their livestock and how to increase their productivity, and the livestock data collected can be archived for village administrators.
With integrated and easily accessible data, both farmers and animal health workers can identify problems early on and take appropriate steps.
“Thank you for this program. We hope to provide complete information to visiting animal health workers,” concluded Heri, one of the farmers in Tegowangi Village. [Ilham/Gretania/Irene/ UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
