Malang, 4 November 2024 – The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya (FVM UB), proudly presents the Visiting Adjunct Professor Programme, a prestigious event taking place from 4 to 8 November 2024. This programme highlights international collaboration in the field of veterinary oncology, aiming to broaden knowledge in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer in pets, while also strengthening international cooperation in research, education, and scientific publication.
The event was officially opened by the Dean of FKH UB, Drh. Dyah Ayu Oktavianie, who welcomed Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gayathri Thevi Selvarajah, DVM, DAICViM, an expert in Veterinary Oncology from Universiti Putra Malaysia, as the Visiting Adjunct Professor. Her presence is expected to make a significant contribution to enhancing research and publication capacity at FKH UB, while providing an opportunity for students and lecturers to interact and exchange knowledge with an international expert.
In her remarks, Drh. Dyah Ayu expressed hope that the programme would not only broaden student perspectives but also drive improvements in the quality of education, research, and publication at FKH UB. “Through this programme, we hope that international collaboration will foster innovation opportunities in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer in pets, positively impacting animal welfare and the quality of veterinary services in Indonesia,” she stated.
Programme Highlights and Aspirations for International Collaboration
During the programme, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gayathri will conduct a series of activities, including public lectures and practical seminars for students in the Veterinary Medicine Programme (PPDH) and FKH UB faculty members. Key activities include:
- Public Lecture on Veterinary Oncology – An in-depth exploration of infectious diseases and cancer pathology diagnostics in pets, where PPDH students will gain first-hand knowledge from an expert.
- Workshop on Scientific Writing and Publication – Dr. Gayathri will share expert tips on writing and publishing veterinary research, aimed at encouraging faculty members and students to be more productive in academic publishing.
- Research Collaboration and Discussion – Through research discussion sessions, Dr. Gayathri and the FKH UB academic team will establish partnerships in developing joint research projects focused on innovations in veterinary medicine.
- Seminar and Workshop with PDHI Jatim II – Dr. Gayathri will provide training and share insights with practicing veterinarians in Malang, in collaboration with PDHI Jatim II. This is expected to directly enhance the quality of clinical services for small animals in the Malang area.
In addition to academic activities, Prof. Gayathri is also scheduled to participate in a motivational seminar titled “Becoming an Exceptional Clinician and Scientist.” This seminar will be attended by students and academic staff of FKH UB, featuring discussions on opportunities and challenges in advancing the veterinary profession internationally.
The Visiting Adjunct Professor Programme aims to strengthen FKH UB’s network with global institutions, particularly to enhance the quality of internationally recognised research. Through joint publications and research collaboration, FKH UB hopes to expand its academic influence and establish itself as a centre of excellence in veterinary medicine, not only nationally but also on the global stage.
