The Faculty of Medicine Team, Universitas Brawijaya (FK UB) consisting of Dr. Lilik Zuhriyah, SKM, MKes as the Team Leader along with dr. Alidha Nur Rakhmani, MSc, Agwin Fahmi Fahanani, S.T., M.T., Siti Azwa Zafira, Disa Yuni Shabrina Issaray, and six young doctors in collaboration with Wagir Health Center, Malang Regency, conducted training on the use of the Siaga DBD application for 24 assistant health center officers on September 20, 2024 at Wagir Health Center.
“This training aims to enable health center officers to monitor the situation and immediately respond to dengue cases in their area,” said Lilik Zuhriyah.
The Siaga DBD application that has been built since 2017 is an application that can be used by residents to report the results of environmental risk factor and mosquito larvae surveys independently and report the presence of dengue fever sufferers in their surroundings.
In addition, this application can also facilitate health center officers to report the results of their epidemiological investigations and report data on dengue fever sufferers so that they can be received by the health office quickly. It is hoped that the Siaga DBD application can become an early warning system for dengue fever cases in Malang Regency.
In addition, the activity was also filled with training for 36 health cadres on (5/10/2024) at Wagir Health Center. The cadres are representatives of 12 villages in Wagir District. This training aims to increase the participation of cadres in detecting and handling potential dengue fever outbreaks in their areas.
The activity was in the form of an introduction and training on Siaga DBD website which can be an online platform for mosquito larvae surveillance in every home and can report dengue fever cases in real time. Health cadres were trained directly to fill out mosquito larvae surveys and report sufferers online. It is hoped that later the cadres can invite the community to participate in reporting their own mosquito larvae surveys.
Material on the definition, causes, and prevention of dengue fever; the life cycle of the Aedes mosquito, and how to use the Siaga DBD application was provided through educational videos and continued with questions and answers.
In the training, the cadres were accompanied by students and young doctors to ensure that all cadres could operate the Siaga DBD Application correctly. The presence of the Siaga DBD application was welcomed by the Wagir Health Center and hopes that it can reduce dengue fever cases in its area.
“It is hoped that this training can improve their understanding and skills in detecting early symptoms, taking effective preventive measures, and utilizing the Siaga DBD application to report sufferers and survey environmental risk factors,” said Lilik.
DBD is a disease caused by the dengue virus which is a serious problem in Indonesia every year. In March 2024, Malang Regency recorded 905 cases of dengue fever with 10 deaths. This number shows a significant increase compared to 2023. Because DHF is a disease that has the potential to become an epidemic, reporting must be done within 1×24 hours. With fast reporting, it is hoped that prevention around the sufferer’s settlement can be carried out immediately. (LIK/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
