
Brawijaya University (UB) through the Master of Communication Science study program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) UB held an International Seminar of Postgraduate Students in Communication (Pre-The 3rd Brawijiya Communication International Conference (BCIC) 2023 Event). This activity is a series of BCIC in the form of international seminars which are attended by postgraduate students (masters and doctorates) in Communication Sciences both domestically and abroad. Taking place at Atria Hotel, Malang City for two days, Tuesday (3/10-4/10/2023).
Chief Executive Maulina Pia Wulandari, S.Sos., M.Kom., Ph.D said, this seminar aims to provide a forum for exchanging ideas and sharing scientific insights in the field of Communication Science for master’s and doctoral students. Moreover, to increase academic knowledge trends in the field of Communication Science, related to data analysis and communication analysis methods, as well as how to maintain mental health for postgraduate students.

The agenda for the first day’s series of events was a seminar by experts on “The Importance of Digital Data Analysis in Communication Research” by Christopher Galloway from Master University, New Zealand. Second, material regarding “Analytical Methods in Communication Research” presented by Dr. Muhammad Sulhan, S.IP, M.Si from Gadjah Mada University. Followed by the third session about “PhD Survival Skills: Psychological Toolkit for Your Mental Well-being” which will be delivered by psychologist Omar Khalifa Burhan, S.Psi., M.Sc., Ph.D and team.
On the second day, the focus was on a discussion session involving discussants from professors and masters, lecturers at the Master of Communication Sciences, FISIP UB.
The event was held in hybrid form, carried out online and offline. The offline participant details consist of 10 Communication Science doctoral participants and 30 Communication Science master’s participants. Meanwhile, online participants included overseas students and students from Indonesia who could not come to Malang.
The above activities are one of a handful of supports provided by the study program for students. Recently, FISIP UB Communication Science master’s study program succeeded in achieving the SUPERIOR predicate at the ISK BAN PT accreditation on September 26 2023 – 2027.
