On Wednesday (31/5/2023) University Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and Universitas Brawijaya represented by FILKOM held the International Conference of Asian Students 2023 (ICAS) in the Algorithm Auditorium. A total of five companions and 22 students from UMS attended directly in this activity.
Also present were the Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Alumni and Student Entrepreneurship, Dr. Setiawan Noerdajasakti, S.H., M.H; Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation and Internationalization, Andi Kurniawan, S.Pi., M.Eng. D.Sc and other UB leadership along with the leadership of the FILKOM Dean.
Andi Kurniawan in his speech welcomed and thanked the UMS delegation for choosing UB as the destination for holding the conference.
“In the future, it will not only be this conference activity, it is hoped that there will be student exchanges from the two tertiary institutions, as well as research collaboration from lecturers at UMS and UB. Hopefully this activity will run regularly every year, “explained Andi.
Furthermore, from the UMS representatives, Dr. Abdul Khair Beddu Asis who expressed his gratitude for being accepted at UB, especially FILKOM and thanked for the facilities that had been given since arriving in Malang.
He also hopes that in the future there will be a group from UB or FILKOM who will visit UMS so that they can find out about the learning process of tertiary institutions in Malaysia.
“Obviously UB’s good intention to cooperate with UMS will be welcomed with open arms to advance the two universities. We also hope that there will be a visit from UB so that we can provide the best banquet,” he explained.
In this conference, UMS itself provided material on The Use of Technology for Teaching and Learning in the 21st Century which was delivered by Sitti Fatimah Binti Abd Samat and Abdul Khair Beddu Asis. Meanwhile from UB, represented by Fitri Oktavianti SS., SE., M.Commun., Ph.D. who presented Soft Skills, Marketability & Employability for Uni Student and Muamar Khadafi, S.Kom., M.M. which conveys the profile of UB.
One of UMS students, Mohd Khuzairee Ekmal Bin Samsudin in his interview with FILKOM Public Relations team also conveyed his first impressions of visiting FILKOM UB.
“The air in Malang is very cool, especially FILKOM. I thought this was not a university because it looked like a five-star hotel from the outside. Thank you also to our fellow FILKOM students who kindly welcomed us and accompanied the tour while we were here,” explained Khuzairee.
For a week, the UMS delegation will be in Malang, besides carrying out the conference later they will also visit tourist attractions in Malang. Hopefully the visit and activities of this international conference will pave the way for cooperation between UB and UMS in various fields for both students and lecturers. [drn/Humas UB/ Trans. Iir]
