FILKOM Installs TriBand Cellular Phone Repeater in UB Forest

UB Forest is an educational forest covering an area of ​​554 hectares on the slopes of Mount Arjuno, precisely in Sumbersari Hamlet, Tawang Argo Village, Karangploso, Malang Regency. Its location at the foot of Mount Arjuno makes this area difficult to get a GSM signal with good quality. So that when they are in Sumbersari Hamlet, where UB Forest is located, smartphone or cellphone users find it difficult to communicate what else when they need an internet connection. This is felt by researchers and local residents who are active in UB Forest, especially people from Sumbersari Hamlet.

Based on this problem, the community service team from the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) chaired by Ir. Heru Nurwarsito, M.Kom and consists of Hariz Farisi, S.Kom., M.T. and Nur Hazbiy Shaffan, ST, MT provide a solution by implementing TriBand Cellular Phone Repeater technology, namely 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE in UB Forest so that community members or researchers who are at UB Forest location can communicate via cell phone networks from all operators.

“The specifications that will be used for Cellular Phone Repeater devices support for all telecommunications operator networks from Telkomsel, Indosat, XL, and Smartfren,” explained Heru.

It should be noted for the 2G/edge (900Mhz), 3G/H+ (2100Mhz) and 4G/LTE (900/1800Mhz) Frequency Bands. Uplink Frequency Range: 890-2000 Mhz Downlink: 930-2100 MHz. Gain: 60-70 dB. There are two antennas used, the first is used to receive signals from the nearest BTS and the second antenna is used to retransmit signals from the BTS. The antenna is mounted on a pole approximately 10 meters high so that it can transmit cell phone signals more broadly. The installation of antenna equipment, repeaters and electrical devices will be carried out on August 22, 2022.

After the GSM repeater equipment is installed, the signal amplification results will be tested on August 27, 2022. The result is that the quality of the frequency band signal is at the 3G/H+ level with a gain of up to 65. Even though you don’t get the 4G/LTE frequency band, you can feel the quality of this frequency become more stable. So that the people of Sumbersari Hamlet and researchers in UB Forest can get better and more stable quality of cellular and internet signals.

The FILKOM UB service team has also handed over the equipment and the use of the equipment through representatives of the residents of Sumbersari Hamlet, Mr. Sugito.
