FILKOM UB Launches Indonesian Culture and Wealth Education Application

Jagoan Indonesia apps by FILKOM UB studentsAhead of the 108th national awakening day, Research group of Media, Game and Mobile device technology at Faculty of Computer Science University of Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) launched an educative mobile application for kids themed Indonesian Culture and Wealth named Jagoan Indonesia. Launching of the educational game application conducted at MGM room, Thursday (19/May/2016).

On the occasion, Head of Mobile Device Programming Laboratory (Laboratorium Pemrograman Aplikasi Perangkat Bergerak/PAPB) Herman Tolle, Dr. Eng., S.T., M.T. mentioned that Jagoan Indonesia application has three menus of main game including “Jelajah”, “Puzzle” and “Kuis”.

In “Jelajah” menu, will be given information about traditional clothing and house and also typical objects of each province in Indonesia; like Toba Lake in North Sumatera, National Monument in DKI Jakarta, and Cendrawasih bird in Papua. The way is users simply select a province to know any distinctiveness owned by the region. After all the information regard to the province is delivered, users will be asked to match the province’s typical object in the map. The province which has successfully been accomplished will be marked in yellow colour.

In the menu “Puzzle” game, users are asked to arrange pieces of images of 34 provinces areas in Indonesian map. The game is useful to help users in knowing the position of provinces in Indonesia. In the menu of puzzle game, users are also challenged to be able to accomplish with the fastest time.

The last menu is “Kuis”. The game is to test users’ understanding in common knowledge about Indonesia. Nevertheless Kuis game menu is still not yet able to be accessed by users in current application version since still in development stage. “Currently, Jagoan Indonesia application could run in Apple iPad device. We are developing application for iPhone version and Android platform. Just wait,” said Mury Fajar as Mirai programmer and also FILKOM UB alumni who also attended Jagoan Indonesia launching event.

Herman Tolle, Dr. Eng., S.T., M.T., on the occasion explained that Gadget or electronic device has been very close with the lives of children today. The existence of education application is not only to reduce gadget usage’s negative impact, but also able to develop kids’ affective and cognitive ability, including imparting knowledge about Indonesian culture and wealth. In addition to its educational content, the application’s advantages are lies on illustration of interesting image and sound narration.

This education application is a pilot project result of a partnership between FILKOM UB with Mirai Education, an educational application development company in Japan. These educational application which developed by Mirai Education is very popular in Japan and becomes top ranking apps in Apple AppStore in Educational Apps category. Under the supervision of Mirai Education, is expected that Jagoan Indonesia application development which involving students, alumni and FILKOM UB lecturers is able to reach success and well accepted by Indonesian communities.
