A team of lecturers from the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) developed a video profile that will be used by Surya Buana Islamic Elementary School, to introduce the school to the community and prospective students in a more interactive and informative way.
Surya Buana Islamic Elementary School (SDI Surya Buana) is a private school in Malang City with Islamic religious characteristics. As time goes by, both public and private schools must have good digital school promotion facilities to attract the interest of prospective students and parents.
With a strong commitment to quality education, this school continuously strives to provide the best learning experience for students. However, like many other schools, Surya Buana is also faced with challenges in promoting itself amidst competition from other schools.
School profile videos are an effective way to promote schools to prospective students, parents and the wider community.
This media is very important as a means of school promotion because it can provide a clearer picture of the school, attract attention, improve the school’s image, increase parental trust and satisfaction, and is easily disseminated through various social media and online platforms.
A positive response was conveyed by the Principal of SDI Surya Buana, Endang Suprihatin, S.S., S.Pd.
She expressed her gratitude the FILKOM UB lecturers who carry out community service activities at their school, and expressed her belief that this profile video will help the school attract new students and strengthen the school’s positive image.
“We have long wanted a school profile video in line with the development of SDI Surya Buana and we are very grateful that this wish will soon come true,” explained Endang.
Therefore, FILKOM UB lecturer team headed by Rizal Setya Perdana, S.Kom., M.Kom., Ph.D; and consisting of Ir. Indriati, S.T., M.Kom., Putra Pandu Adikara, S.Kom., M.Kom. and Edy Santoso, S.Sc., M.Kom. (4) developed a video-based information media technology in the form of school profiles.
In general, people find it easier to understand and feel comfortable watching school profile videos than reading text. This community service activity was also assisted by several FILKOM students consisting of Dwi Andre Vebriansyah, King Arthur Bintang Alfarez, and Ramadhan Mulia Fajri.
“The public is more interested in visual-based information than text” and hopes that “this profile video will be useful for SDI Surya Buana and the community,” explained Rizal as the team leader.
The development of the video profile was carried out through several stages, namely concept preparation, storyboard design, material collection, material assembly, testing and distribution which started in May 2023. During the storyboard design and material collection, the school involved both teachers and students and was also assisted by Information Technology Education students at the Faculty of Computer Science in the FWP (Field Work Practice) program as a learning tool for implementing knowledge in the real world.
The profile video that has been developed will be an important tool in school promotion. Besides distributed via social media and the school website, this video will also be used in various school promotional activities, such as presentation exhibitions to prospective students and parents as well as official school activities such as graduation activities.
