FILKOM Becomes the Host of Microcasa International Panel Discussion

Faculty of Computer Science, Brawijaya University (FILKOM UB) has received the great honor of being one of the hosts of the consortium project meeting from Microcasa program. This international discussion panel activity was held for 2 (two) days, where the first day, Monday (2/10/2023) was held at the Grand Mercure Hotel and on the second day, Tuesday (3/10/2023) at the Algorithm Auditorium.

Microcasa is the first international project that aims to share the experience of consortiums in Europe by building institutional capacity in Southeast Asia. Microcasa focuses on microcredentials aspects of lecture content, educational technology, guaranteeing learning quality.

The content of this meeting discusses development strategies and development plans and reviews related to microcredentials projects in modern higher education. Microcredentials are competency certifications issued by companies after someone completes a practical learning process and hones skills in a relatively short time.

This consortium was attended by representatives from Universitat Des Saarlandes, Germany, namely Prof. Armin Weinberger; Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Prof. Carlos Delgado Kloos; Associazione Cimea, Manuela Costone; Universiti Sains Malaysia, Radziah Adam; Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Prof. Narayanan Kulathuramaiyer; Brawijaya University, Achmad Basuki; Sam Ratulangi University, Alwin Sambul; Ateneo De Manila University, Dennis B. Batangan.

Furthermore, on the second day, the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Imam Santoso, MP. as well as the Dean of FILKOM, Prof. Ir. Wayan Firdaus Mahmudy, S.Si., MT., Ph.D. give a speech to university representatives from outside who were present.

“This international discussion is a rare opportunity for academics and practitioners in the field of higher education to interact and discuss topics that are very appropriate to the demands of today’s ever-changing job market,” said Prof. Imam

Next, one of the keynote speakers, Prof. Armin Weinberger also conveyed this microcredentials project which will provide good understanding in supporting education, training and learning related to employment.

“The project findings will offer new knowledge on the characteristics of microcredentials, their added value to individual learners and employees, as well as their impact on existing qualifications and recognition systems,” he added.

The participation of various universities from Europe and Southeast Asia in this event shows how important the topic of microcredentials is on a global scale. They will share their views on the challenges and opportunities faced by universities in their respective regions, and many will bring their own experiences in developing successful microcredentials programs.

With a spirit of collaboration and innovative thinking, it is hoped that this discussion panel will produce useful solutions and guidelines for advancing higher education in this ever-changing modern era.
