FILKOM Tech Talks #4 Discusses the Physical Properties of Metal to Virtual Tourism

The webinar series which is held as one of the commemorating events of the 9th Anniversary of FILKOM, has reached its fourth. FILKOM Tech Talks # 4 was held online on November 6, 2020 with Prof. Hideyuki Sawada from Waseda University, Japan and Dr.Eng. Herman Tolle, ST., MT. from the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB). The webinar was attended by around 140 participants consisting of academics and students from inside and outside FILKOM.

In the first session Prof. Sawada conveyed the research results entitled “New physical properties of a shape-memory alloy and their applications to sensors and actuators”.

He discussed how the physical properties of metal alloys or what is called shape-memory alloy (SMA) can be applied to sensors and actuators.

According to him, an alloy has the property to return to its original shape. The discussion includes the definition of SMA and its characteristics, micro vibration actuators made with SMA and micro-force sensors.

“Shape-memory alloy is an alloy that remembers its original shape,” explained Prof. Sawada.

Meanwhile, Herman Tolle in the second session delivered material about “Virtual Tourism using Virtual Reality in the Covid-19 Pandemic Era”. He discussed how virtual reality technology can be optimized for virtual tourism during the Covid-19 pandemic. His presentation includes statistical data information on foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in 2019 – 2020, definition of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), characteristics of VR and AR and examples of technologies that utilize AR and VR.

As an information, the fifth webinar in this series will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2020. The topics to be discussed are Software Engineering Research Trends and Software Modeling in Agile Environments. The speakers who will be presented are Romi Satrio Wahono, M.Eng., Ph.D. as Founder & CEO IlmuKomputerCom & Brainmatics and Tri Astoto Kurniawan, Ph.D. from FILKOM UB.
