The Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) on Tuesday (10/9/2024) held a guest lecture with the Software Development and Management Concept, via GMeet with resource person Dr. Prosper K. Yeng, a lecturer from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway. Acting as a moderator for this guest lecture, Aswin Suharsono, S.T., M.T.
Prosper discussed the concept of software development (software engineering) and the methodology used in the development process. Software development has several main stages, namely needs analysis, design, coding, testing, implementation, and maintenance. There are also several software development methodologies, such as the waterfall model and the agile method. The concept of software project management, including scheduling, version control, risk management, and quality assurance.
“The importance of understanding project management for those working in information technology, because it will help in implementing and managing software development projects in the company,” explained Prosper.
Such as the use of the Github platform, a version control tool that is very commonly used in software development. Prosper explained to the participants about their experience using Github, because the experience of using similar tools can increase reputation and attract the interest of job recruiters. Software development methodologies can be categorized into traditional and agile, the Waterfall model is an example of a traditional software development methodology while the Agile model focuses on collaboration, customer feedback, and rapid release.
As a lecturer for the Integrated Systems Technology course in the Information Technology Education Study Program, Aswin hopes that students and participants will gain knowledge from the guest lecture activities which are also part of the “3-in-1” Program activities. (yw/rr/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
