The Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) in collaboration with International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) Indonesia held a Guest Lecture and Scientific Discussion on Wednesday (10/30/2024) at the G2 Building, Algoritma Auditorium, FILKOM UB successfully. This event brought together FILKOM students and lecturers to explore more deeply the role of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and innovation in supporting digital transformation in the enterprise world. In the Guest Lecture session, students gained in-depth insights into the importance of AI in digital transformation, especially in the business environment. One of the main topics discussed was WatsonX, an innovative platform from IBM that provides enterprise-based AI solutions. This platform is designed to help organizations optimize work processes through reliable artificial intelligence integration.
“WatsonX is one of the real proofs of how AI can bring about major changes in efficiency and innovation in the workplace,” explained Winton, Client Engineering Lead IBM Indonesia.
The students who attended expressed their enthusiasm for this new knowledge, which is expected to motivate them to continue developing their abilities in the field of technology. In addition, the Scientific Discussion session attended by lecturers from the Information Systems (IS) Department of FILKOM UB provided strategic insights on how to improve technological competence and awareness in the world of education. The IBM team that attended, including Winton (Client Engineering Lead), Gebby Oktapuri (Territory Manager IBM Technology Indonesia), Rina Suryani (Corporate Social Responsibility IBM Indonesia), and YUE Yean Feng (Corporate Social Responsibility Leader, IBM APAC), introduced various free facilities that can be utilized by lecturers.
Some of IBM’s leading initiatives introduced in this discussion include: First, IBM Skills Build (https://skillsbuild.org/adult-learners/digital-credentials): A Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) designed to improve technological skills through digital-based training and relevant certification. Second, IBM Sustainability Accelerator (https://www.ibm.com/impact/initiatives/ibm-sustainability-accelerator): This program is designed to assist institutions in developing technologies that support sustainability. The discussion also discussed opportunities for further collaboration to improve the capacity of lecturers in adopting the latest technology and building awareness of the importance of sustainability in technology development.
“This Guest Lecture and Scientific Discussion is expected to be a good start for collaboration between FILKOM UB and IBM Indonesia, which will support the development of education and technology for a more sustainable future,” said Riswan Septriayadi Sianturi, Ph.D., one of the lecturers in the Information Systems Department of FILKOM UB.
This activity provides great benefits for students and lecturers, both in terms of enriching knowledge and opportunities for academic collaboration.
