
The 59th Asia Pacific Advanced Network (APAN59) and Seminar on Internet Asia (SOI) Asia, are international seminars that focus on collaboration, research, and technology development in the field of networking and education in Asia. The 2025 event was attended by around 500 participants from 30 countries and was held for six days (3/3–8/3/2025) in Japan. It took place in three locations, namely Asia Pacifico Yokohama, Haneda Innovation City, and Keio University Campus in Hiyoshi.
On this occasion, the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) was represented by Achmad Basuki, S.T., MMG., Ph.D., Agung Setia Budi, S.T., M.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., Eko Setiawan, S.T., M.T., M.Eng., Ph.D., Rizal Setya Perdana, S.Kom., M.Kom., Ph.D. and Ananda Fitra Diraja (student). The Faculty of Engineering (FT) was represented by Dr. Raden Arief Setiawan, S.T., M.T.
The activity began by discussing various technology issues, such as IPv6 + 5G, APONet, disaster mitigation on the National Research and Education Network (NREN) and Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID), AI driven Networks Working Group (AINWG), and HPC/AI Working Group. On this occasion, Achmad Basuki as UB delegate had the opportunity to share insights on testing internet networks with a combination of cable and satellite technology.

At the same time, Eko Setiawan and Agung Setia Budi attended a meeting at Keio University, Hiyoshi, (5/3/2025). This meeting discussed the sustainability of research collaboration between universities in the field of digital conservation of historical objects. In addition, the two FILKOM representatives also contributed to the SOI-Asia activities by presenting collaborative projects between UB and other partners, namely the Arterial Research and Educational Network in Asia-Pacific (ARENA-PAC), Community-Based Research (CBR) and Digital Humanities Asia/And Science Hub (DHASH) for two days (6/3-7/3/2025) at Pacifico Yokohama. At the same location and time, Ananda Fitra as a student representative also had the opportunity to introduce the Asia Pacific Internet Exchange (APIE) activities to the SOI-Asia meeting participants.

This series of activities was closed with the SOI-Asia meeting (8/3/2025) at Haneda Innovation City. All UB representatives attended the event. The opening of the meeting was attended by the Indonesian Ambassador to Japan, Ir. Heri Akhmadi, together with the Vice President of Keio University, representatives of the Japanese Ministry, Mayor Ota, and several industry representatives. In the opening session, delegates from UB and representatives of other universities in Indonesia participated in discussions with the Indonesian Ambassador regarding strategic issues that could be developed collaboratively. Achmad Basuki on this occasion said that this international meeting was an important step in expanding the global cooperation network.
“UB’s involvement, especially FILKOM and FT in APAN59 and SOI Asia, is expected to strengthen collaboration in student exchanges and research, as well as increase the existence of Universitas Brawijaya in the international arena. UB’s participation will also strengthen its position as a research and education institution that is oriented towards technological innovation and international collaboration,” said Achmad Basuki.
