
The Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) officially welcomed students of the Consortium of FCS Independent Student Program (PMM) throughout Indonesia and students of the South East Asia (SEA) Teacher Program from the Philippines in an event that took place in Meeting Room 1, 6th Floor, Building A FIB UB on Wednesday (2/26/2025). This program is part of UB’s efforts to strengthen academic and cultural exchanges at the international level.
The event was attended by the Dean of FCS UB, Hamamah, Ph.D., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Sahiruddin, Ph.D., Head of Department, Head of the Study Program of Anthropology (SPA), Faculty MBKM Coordinator, Head of IRO, Head of P4, and Academic and Student Affairs Team of FIB UB.
Two PMM Consortium students in this program come from Halu Oleo University, Southeast Sulawesi, and will study for one semester at the SPA of FCS UB. They are Sartika and Indah Dwi Septiani.
In addition, four students from the SEA-Teacher Program will undergo a teaching program in Indonesia for 22 days. They come from Ateneo De Naga University, Philippines, Rea Gene A. Herez, Monica Gito Garigo, Aileen Mae Badiola Daco, and Hannah Kyla Martinez Baldoza.
Meanwhile, FCS UB also sent four students to Ateneo De Naga University, Philippines, who will depart on Sunday (3/2/2025), namely Nurul Aulia Permata Aldin (Study Program of English Literature), Chairunissa Aulia Athaya (Study Program of English Language Education/SPELE), Shessya Kannisa Jannah (SPELE), and Mochammad Ravi (SPELE) to teach there.

The Dean of FCS UB, Hamamah, Ph.D., warmly welcomed the PMM Consortium and SEA-Teacher students to FCS UB. She emphasized that this program not only aims for academic development but also is a forum for cultural exchange between Indonesia and the Philippines.
“We are delighted to receive students from the Philippines and Halu Oleo University at FCS UB. It is a good first step in building collaboration between Indonesia and the Philippines, as well as our universities,” Hamamah said.
The Dean of FCS UB also emphasized that while in Malang, students will not only study in class but also experience the cultural life of East Java, including understanding learning methods in Indonesia.
“Besides academic study, you will learn about local culture, especially Javanese and Malang cultures. We hope this experience can provide new insights that will be useful for your future,” she added.

The Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Sahiruddin, Ph.D., also gave a speech and emphasized that international students and students from other universities participating in this program will get a unique learning experience at FCS UB.
“Welcome to FCS UB. We have a team ready to help you during the program. If there are any problems, please contact our academic team,” said Sahiruddin.
One of the PMM Consortium students from Halu Oleo University, Indah Dwi Septiani, expressed her hopes while studying at FCS UB.
“I chose UB because I saw on social media that UB has an interesting learning system. I hope to gain much new knowledge and valuable experience here,” said Indah.
Meanwhile, Monica Gito Garigo, a SEA-Teacher student from Ateneo De Naga University, said she was pleased to study and teach in Indonesia.
“We came to UB to learn more about Indonesia’s culture and learning methods. In addition, we also want to explore Malang City, try its specialties, and build good relationships with friends here,” she said.

The PMM Consortium and SEA-Teacher activities are evidence of UB’s commitment to supporting the internationalization of education and strengthening relations between countries through student and cultural exchanges. With this program, students are expected to gain valuable academic and social experiences, both for students studying abroad and international students coming to Indonesia.
The Dean of FCS UB closed the event with the hope that all students can enjoy this program and have an unforgettable experience.
