FCS UB Raises the Issues of Education, Technology, and Inclusivity at ICEL IV

The Department of Language Education, Faculty of Cultural Studies (FCS), Universitas Brawijaya (UB) once again held the International Conference on Advances in Humanities, Education, and Language (ICEL) on Wednesday-Thursday (2-3/10/2024). Entering its fourth year, this international seminar carries the theme “Global Perspective, Local Influence: Language Education, Technology, Cultural Diversity, and Inclusivity.”

At ICEL IV, the Department of Language Education FCS UB presented five keynote speakers from various countries, including (1) Prof. Umesh Sharma from Monash University, Australia, (2) Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lilla Adulyasas from Yala Rajabhat University, Thailand, (3) Dr. Wan Nurul Elia Haslee Sharil from Universiti Teknologi Mara, Malaysia, (4) Prof. Akiha Takako from Prefectural University of Kumamoto, Japan, and (5) Prof. Zuliati Rohmah from UB, Indonesia.

Held at the Hall of Building B FCS UB, this event was opened by singing the National Anthem, Indonesia Raya, followed by a contemporary traditional dance performance, Tari Rampak Etnika. Afterward, Hamamah, Ph.D., the Dean of FCS UB, delivered an opening remark.

“This is an extraordinary year for FCS UB, as we successfully organized four international conferences. Two of these conferences were held as an effort of partnership with prestigious overseas institutions. The ICOLLEC conference was held with Elinet from the University of Glasgow, and the ISCS conference was held in collaboration with the University of Malaya, Sarawak. These partnerships symbolize our commitment to fostering international academic relations,” Hamamah explained.

“The two conferences we are hosting this week, ICEL and Icon Laterals, bring together a diverse range of knowledge and expertise from around the world. I am pleased to share that we have over 200 presenters from nine countries, namely (1) Indonesia, (2) Malaysia, (3) Singapore, (4) Australia, (5) the Netherlands, (6) Thailand, (7) Russia, (8) China, and (9) Japan who will contribute their research, insights, and innovations to these two events,” she added.

UB Rector, Prof. Widodo, S.Si., Ph.D., Med.Sc., was also present to give a speech and officially open ICEL IV. In his remarks, the UB Rector emphasized the sustainability of international cooperation to achieve collaboration in research, teaching, and community service.

In addition, Prof. Widodo also expressed his gratitude to all the keynote speakers, presenters, and participants who have dedicated their time and energy to make this event a success. He also thanked the organizing committee for their hard work and dedication in realizing this conference.

“Academics, researchers, and practitioners from various fields and geographical locations can gather at this conference to discuss their creative solutions, discoveries, and original ideas on a dedicated platform. Hosting this event makes us very delighted because it perfectly reflects UB’s dedication to global engagement and academic excellence,” Prof. Widodo said.

“To the international guests, I hope you can enjoy your time in Malang and at UB pleasantly and productively. We expect this conference can foster new collaborations and friendships that will continue after this event ends,” he hoped.

This two-day international seminar was held offline. It is an international forum that aims to provide space for researchers to present and discuss issues, especially in the fields of Education, Technology, and Inclusivity. [ag/dts/PR FCS]
