FH Holds Book Writing Workshop, Encouraging Students to Publish IPR-Certified Books

The Faculty of Law, Universitas Brawijaya (FH UB) held a Book Writing and Publishing Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) on Friday (21/2/2025) to equip students with writing and publishing skills, as well as to encourage recognition of Intellectual Property Rights for the works produced.

This workshop presented three main speakers, namely Prof. Dr. Moh. Fadli, S.H., M.Hum. (Professor of FH UB), Andung Eko Wijayanto, S.Sos., and Abdur Rahim, S.S., M.Pd. from Intrans Publishing. This activity was attended by 20 student organizations within the FH UB environment, including BEM, DPM, Autonomous Institutions (LO), Semi-Autonomous Institutions (LSO), and representatives of postgraduate programs.

Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Student Entrepreneurship of FH UB, Dr. Muktiono, S.H., M.Phil., emphasized that this workshop is a strategic step to improve students’ literacy capacity in the field of law.

“This activity aims to enable students in various organizations to have the skills to write and publish books that can obtain IPR recognition,” he said.

He explained that this program does not stop at just one day of training, but will be continued with intensive mentoring.

“We have formed an assistance team from among lecturers who will assist students until their work is actually published and obtains IPR,” he added.

One of the main aspects discussed in this workshop is the importance of the originality of ideas in writing a book. According to Dr. Muktiono, many interesting ideas emerge from student activities that can be developed into quality written works.

“From various discussions and organizational activities, new perspectives often emerge that can be developed into books with strong academic value,” he explained.

In addition, this workshop also opens up opportunities for students who already have manuscripts to directly submit their work. With the support of the assistance team and internal publishing, the publishing process can be done faster for manuscripts that meet the standards.

However, Dr. Muktiono admitted that writing a quality book is not easy. The biggest challenge is getting students used to writing works that are more in-depth than just reports or short articles.

“Therefore, students need to explore ideas from their own experiences so that the work produced is not only original, but also relevant to legal and social developments,” he said.

This workshop was welcomed positively by participants who felt they had gained new insights into the world of legal literacy. In addition to technical provision, this activity also opens up student networks with experts in the fields of writing and publishing.

In the future, FH UB plans to make this activity an annual agenda to continue to encourage student productivity in the world of legal literacy. With ongoing mentoring, it is hoped that the work of FH UB students can be recognized not only at the national level, but also internationally. (rma/FH PR/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
